Patent number: 8079533Abstract: A rotating spray nozzle, comprising an elongate stem securable to a liquid-supply pipe, the stem defining a passageway therethrough for communicating a liquid from the supply pipe, the passageway communicating at least one inlet opening and at least one outlet opening defined in the stem; and a polymer nozzle body freely rotatably mounted on the stem for rotation about a nozzle axis, the nozzle body having an internal cavity in communication with the at least one outlet opening of the stem, and at least one nozzle defined through the nozzle body and communicating with the internal cavity, the at least one nozzle being offset from the nozzle axis to impart a driving couple to the nozzle body to cause rotation thereof when a liquid from the supply pipe is communicated through the at least one nozzle. The stem defines a longitudinal portion bounded at opposite ends thereof by integral annular shoulders having diameters greater than the longitudinal portion.Type: GrantFiled: February 23, 2009Date of Patent: December 20, 2011Assignee: BEX Engineering, Ltd.Inventor: Derek Bowen

Patent number: 5730370Abstract: A spray nozzle assembly has a main nozzle body defining a socket having a part-spherical surface. A nozzle ball is mounted within the nozzle socket and, in known manner a collar or the like is used to secure the ball in position. To provide an adequate seal between the nozzle ball and the nozzle body, a sealing lip is provided on the nozzle ball. This lip extends radially outwardly beyond the nozzle ball. The lip can be in the form of a cone tangential with the spherical surface. This sealing configuration can be used for other purposes, and is generally applicable to providing a connection between two fluid conduits, which are required to meet at an angle that is adjustable.Type: GrantFiled: November 14, 1996Date of Patent: March 24, 1998Assignee: Bex Engineering Ltd.Inventor: Norman D. Patent number: 5421522Abstract: A nozzle assembly has a nozzle body and a nozzle insert. A sealing member for the assembly is mounted in a groove on the nozzle insert, so as to be removed with the insert. The sealing member, for example an O ring, provides both a sealing function and resiliently biases the insert and body into engagement with one another. Locking projections are provided on the body and insert. The insert has a frusto-conical surface on which the O ring is mounted, so that the O ring is both stretched radially and compressed between the body and insert. A second O ring seal can be provided. For ease of manufacture, locking projections on the insert are formed by a pressing operation, and these locking projections can include a short step to facilitate the engagement of the nozzle body and nozzle insert.Type: GrantFiled: September 24, 1993Date of Patent: June 6, 1995Assignee: Bex Engineering Ltd.Inventor: Strachan D. Patent number: 5316218Abstract: A rotating spray nozzle has a nozzle mounting member, for attachment to a supply pipe. A nozzle body is rotatably mounted on the nozzle mounting member, and includes at least one, but preferably two, slot-shaped nozzles. Each slot-shaped nozzle generates a fan-shaped spray in a plane. Each nozzle is inclined to intersect the axis of the nozzle axis, to ensure thorough distribution of spray, on either side of the nozzle body, across the nozzle axis. The slot-shaped nozzles can be formed as slots in a unitary nozzle body.Type: GrantFiled: May 12, 1993Date of Patent: May 31, 1994Assignee: Bex Engineering Ltd.Inventor: Strachan D. Bowen
