Abstract: A digital media lending system, method and item representation are disclosed. The system comprises a check-out terminal (20) and an item representation corresponding to a digital media item, the item representation (30) including a machine readable identifier (35). The machine readable identifier (35) is readable by the check-out terminal (20) upon presentation of the item representation (30) at the terminal (20). Upon presentation of the item representation (30), the terminal (20) being arranged to read the machine readable identifier (35), identify the digital media item corresponding to the machine readable identifier and cause a copy of the digital media item to be made available to a digital media device (50) of a patron for consumption.
