Abstract: A method of producing biodiesel from a source of triglycerides. The source of triglycerides is reacted with a blended alcohol composition in the presence of a catalyst to form a mixture of at least one fatty acid alcohol ester and glycerin. The fatty acid alcohol ester is then separated from the glycerin and is purified to produce a biofuel. The blended alcohol composition comprises at least one lower alcohol, a ketone and ethyl acetate. The use of the blended alcohol composition allows the transesterification process to proceed under ambient temperature and pressure conditions within a relatively short reaction time.
