Abstract: A microingredient dispenser for delivering a continual supply of feed additives from supply cartridges to animal feed. The dispenser includes a frame, first and second hoppers, first and second dispensing stations, a plunger drive mechanism, first and second ingredient receiver couplings, first and second cartridge retainer mechanisms, and control means for coordinating the movement of bar-coded cartridges and a drive mechanism. The hoppers hold multiple cartridges for feeding into the dispensing stations. The ingredients from the cartridges are delivered from the cartridges at the dispensing stations beneath the hoppers. The ingredients are dispensed from the cartridges as the plunger drive mechanism pushes the plungers within the cartridges. The cartridge at one dispensing station is emptied while the cartridge at the other station is being readied for dispensing when the first is empty. In this manner, a continual flow of ingredient can be maintained.

Abstract: A method for preparing, at an animal feedlot, a suspension of microaerophilic or anaerobic bacteria at a known, accurate concentration in anticipation of dispensing the suspension of bacteria into animal feed or drinking water. The method allows the livestock feedlot or poultry operators to maintain the suspension of bacteria in a substantially viable condition without significant loss of viability and without requiring constant or intermittent agitation after the suspension is created. Refrigeration of the suspension is also unnecessary if the suspension of bacteria is dispensed within a predetermined period of time after preparation.

Abstract: New strains of Lactobacillus capable of adhering to the gut epithelial cells of various species of animals and useful as dietary supplements.
Abstract: New strains of Lactobacillus acidophilus capable of adhering to the tissue cells of various species of animals are described. At least one new strain exhibits calcium-independent attachment which is enhanced by the presence of calcium. The strains may be used in a suitable carrier as a dietary supplement for providing a source of the strain of bacteria in an animal.
Abstract: Metam sodium (sodium methyl dithiocarbamate) for preserving high-moisture forage crops like hay and grain at application rates below about 4 lbs/T.
