Patents Assigned to BioInterface Technologies, Inc.
  • Patent number: 7147845
Abstract: The present invention relates to novel antimicrobial silver ion complex resinates. More particularly, the present invention contemplates silver ion complex resinate compositions comprising a silver-thiosulfate ion complex loaded onto an organic anion exchange resin. These silver thiosulfate ion complex resinate compositions are able to release stable antimicrobial silver ion complexes when placed in a saline environment. These antimicrobial silver-ion complex resinates are useful in the treatment and prevention of infections and diseases.

  • Publication number: 20040213830
Abstract: The present invention relates to new silver-ion super-complex compositions. More particularly, the present invention describes silver-ion super-complex compositions comprising a silver-thiosulfate ion complex further complex with a primary, secondary or tertiary amine. These silver-ion super-complex compositions are stable in a saline environment and have improved solvent miscibility.

  • Publication number: 20040214809
Abstract: The present invention relates to novel stabilized silver ion complexes having improved stability in aqueous solutions. The described stabilized silver-ion complex compositions comprise a silver-thiosulfate ion complex, a sulfite stabilizing agent either with or without a sulfite preservation agent. These carrier-free aqueous sulfite stabilized silver thiosulfate ion complex compositions have improved stability when exposed to an aqueous environment for extended periods. Consequently, these compositions have improved antibacterial, anti-viral and/or antifungal activity. These stabilized compositions can be used to coat a wound dressing, an ostomy appliance, an incontinence device, or other medical devices and impart long-term antimicrobial activity.

  • Publication number: 20040009964
Abstract: The present invention relates to the use of water-soluble photo-stable silver thiosulfate ion complexes that are antimicrobially active and inhibit the activity of metalloproteinases. The present invention describes incorporation of these complexes into medical devices and/or wound dressings to prevent or treat symptomology related to microbial infections and/or conditions of excessive tissue destruction. In particular, these complexes may be useful in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis and/or osteoarthritis in the prevention and treatment of articular bone joint degradation and subsequent reductions in joint swelling and pain.

  • Patent number: 5045601
Abstract: A dermatologically-acceptable, moisture vapor-permeable, pressure-sensitive adhesive composition that is a single-phase solid at ambient temperature and resists dissolution when exposed to water, comprises a polymer adhesive which is the product of a process comprising the steps of chain extending a water-soluble derivatized capped prepolymer which comprises a first terminal group and a low-temperature curable group, until the resultant polymer attains a determined level of tackiness, and then subjecting the polymer to low-temperature curing. The adhesive is used to advantage in medical products like adhesive bandages, plasters, dressings and surgical drapes, and can dissolve water-soluble bio-active additives.

  • Patent number: 4933178
Abstract: A medical device with an antimicrobial coating that is safe, effective, photostable and readily manufacturable can be produced by applying a composition to at least one body fluid-contacting surface of the device such that a solid coating is provided on that surface, the coating composition comprising an oligodynamic metal salt of a sulfonylurea, a polymeric material, at least one acid compound selected from the group consisting of a water-soluble carboxylic acid and water-insoluble carboxylic acid, and a carrier liquid in which foregoing components are soluble. The antimicrobial coating accommodates variation in the release of antimicrobial metal ions as a function of the intended use for a medical device to which the coating is applied.
