Abstract: A method for stimulating or enhancing the immune system with a composition that includes a Eurycoma longifolia aqueous extract. Also provided is a method for reducing the risk of infectious disease by administering the composition. Further disclosed is a method for treating an individual with a Eurycoma longifolia aqueous extract to increase the number of T-cells, improve Scoring of Immunological Vigor, lower immunological age, reduce fatigue, or alleviate or reduce stress.

Abstract: The present invention is directed to a new kind of medicinal value or health care function of Eurycoma longifolia extracts, particularly in the treatment or alleviation symptoms and/or conditions associated to hormonal imbalance in females, including menopause and its related symptoms. In one aspect, the present invention discloses the use of a composition comprising a therapeutically effective amount of Eurycoma longifolia extract in the manufacture of a medicament for the alleviation of symptoms and/or conditions associated to hormonal imbalance in females, including menopause and its related symptoms. The alleviation of the symptoms and/or conditions according to the present invention is characterised by inducing a change in the hormonal contents of estrogen, progesterone, follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH). Also disclosed is the use of a pharmaceutical composition comprising the therapeutically effective amount of Eurycoma longifolia extract.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a composition containing an extract from the Polygonum minus for cognition and cosmetic purposes. The extract of Polygonum minus includes quercetin-3-glucuronide and quercitrin. Extract of Polygonum minus is provided in an amount effective to reduce oxidative damage. A process for isolation of an active extract from Polygonum minus includes the steps of a) subjecting the Polygonum minus including aerial parts of the plant to solvent extraction preferably with a material solvent ratio of 1:10-20 by percolation at a temperature range of 70-105° C. preferably 80° C. to obtain the extract; and b) filtering the extract obtained from step (a) followed by concentration and drying involving freeze drying, spray drying or vacuum belt drying to obtain therefrom the dry extract powder.

Abstract: The present invention primarily relates to the use of certain extract formulations of Rhodamnia cinerea as defined herein as alpha-amylase inhibitors and as actives for the therapeutic (including prophylactic) treatment of a carbohydrate metabolic disorder or of a disease attendant on hyperglycemia, preferably selected from the group consisting of prediabetes, obesity, hyperlipemia, arteriosclerosis, arteriolosclerosis, atherosclerosis, diabetes, postprandial hyperglycemia, and metabolic syndrome. The present invention also relates to corresponding methods. The invention further relates to specific extract formulations obtainable from Rhodamnia cinerea and to compositions, in particular orally consumable compositions, comprising an effective amount of such an extract formulation.
