Abstract: A light pipe bezel array assembly is provided for improving the alignment of front or rear mounted light pipes as they pass through the holes of an electronic device's panel. The light pipe bezel array assembly includes a bezel array which includes a front side and a back side formed of interconnected bezels. Each bezel includes a conduit which includes a cavity region adjacent to the bezel's front side and a narrower region which is located closer to the bezel's back side. The cavity regions are sized to accept a flange of a rear mounted light pipe. Meanwhile, the conduits' narrow regions have a diameter substantially the same as the outer diameter of the light pipes that are intended to be aligned. The light pipe bezel array assembly includes adhesive plugs located in bezel conduits for affixing the bezel array to an electronic device's panel.

Abstract: A configurable board mount light pipe array is provided which includes four rails and one or more adapters. Each rail extends longitudinally and includes first and second ends which are connectable to the first and second ends of other rails to form a rectangular frame. The adapters are affixed within the middle of the rectangular frame. Each adapter includes a vertically extending center channel which extends entirely through the adapter. The top of each adapter's center channel includes a light pipe receptacle, and the bottom of the center channel includes an LED receptacle. The configurable board mount light pipe array further includes one or more light pipes which include first and second ends. The light pipes' first ends are positioned within a press-fit engagement within an adapter's light pipe receptacle and the light pipes' second ends are constructed to project through the holes of an electronic device panel.

Abstract: An optical transmission system for coupling light from LED mounted on circuit boards includes a flexible light pipe that is bonded to a lens unit at one end and receives a fitting base at the other end. The lens unit is made to be pressed into and held in a hole in a panel and receive the light pipe through its rear structure. The fitting base may be shaped to be plugged into a circuit board over a board mounted LED or have the LED contained therein with leads to be soldered into a circuit board metal traces. The lens unit and fitting can be standardized and inventoried in large quantities to be assembled to meet a variety of instrumentation requirements in display panel.

Abstract: An apparatus and technique are provided to automatically align an insert for insertion into a hole of a predrilled board. The hole is located by a retractable centering pin on the apparatus to ensure an accurate alignment with the insert, and, once aligned, the insert is inserted into the hole with a force axially applied by the apparatus.
