Patent number: 8602285Abstract: An anchor installation tool has an elongated driving member with a body portion and a head portion. A retaining mechanism retains the anchor installation to the drill bit. The mechanism has a housing on the body portion with a pair of bias lugs that project through the body portion to contact the drill bit. An anchor guide slides on the body and head portion and has a holding member to hold an anchor. The anchor is held in the anchor guide and a drill bit is inserted into the driving member. Axial movement of the drill bit is transferred into axial movement of the driving member. The movement strikes the anchor and ejects the anchor from the anchor guide into a surface.Type: GrantFiled: November 1, 2010Date of Patent: December 10, 2013Assignee: Black & DeckerInventors: Aland Santamarina, Scott Muhlbaier, Mark E. Patent number: 7797844Abstract: A light line generating assembly is disclosed. The assembly includes a light generating unit and a base. The light generating unit produces intersecting light planes to form light lines on a surface. The light generating unit may further include level indicators for manual leveling of the light generating unit. The base is operable to repositionably receive the light generating unit such that the unit may be rotated with respect to the base. The base includes an attachment mechanism operable to connect the base to a supporting surface such as a wall or floor. The attachment mechanism is adjustable, and can be reoriented to permit the selective use of particular coupling devices/methods. Additionally, the light line generating assembly may include an adjustable measuring device (e.g., a protractor) moveably attached to the base.Type: GrantFiled: May 26, 2006Date of Patent: September 21, 2010Assignee: Black & DeckerInventors: Robert J. Publication number: 20090033159Abstract: A permanent magnet, DC motor especially well adapted for use in power tools, and particularly hand-held, battery powered power tools. The motor includes two sets of armature coils, with each set of coils being coupled to separate sets of commutator bars on an armature. Separate pairs of brushes are used to interface with the two sets of commutator bars. A switching subsystem is controlled either manually by a user engageable switch or automatically by a controller, to connect the two sets of coils in either series or parallel configurations. The series configuration provides a greater efficiency, but with a lower power output than the parallel connection. The parallel connection provides a greater maximum power output from the motor. Thus, the operating characteristics of the tool can be tailored to better meet the needs of a work task, and in a manner than makes most efficient use of available battery power.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 20, 2007Publication date: February 5, 2009Applicant: BLACK & DECKERInventors: Joshua D. Publication number: 20080041211Abstract: The present invention is directed toward a system for forming miter joints including a miter saw and an angle gauge. The miter saw includes a platform with a kerf slot and a pair of arcuate slots. Each arcuate slot includes an associated rail located on the underside of the platform. A fence is coupled to each of the rails such that the fence may be pivoted with respect to the platform. The angle measurement tool is a one-handed tool including spring loaded paddles that measure the angle between intersecting surfaces. The angle measurement tool connects to the miter saw to permit the transfer of the measured angle to the fences.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 17, 2007Publication date: February 21, 2008Applicant: Black & DeckerInventors: Louis Gibbons, Gregory S. Patent number: 7299565Abstract: A tape measure includes a housing, a rule blade coilable within the housing, and an edge guide coupled to the housing. The edge guide may be oriented in either a first position, in which the edge guide contacts the edge of a work surface, or a second position, in which the edge guide does not contact the edge of the work surface. The edge guide may be permanently or releasably connected to the housing. The tape measure may further include a laser assembly that generates a laser line intersecting the rule blade and the work surface and a calibration mechanism to adjust the alignment of the laser line. In use, the edge guide may orient the tape measure on the work surface such that the laser line is generally perpendicular to the work surface edge.Type: GrantFiled: February 17, 2006Date of Patent: November 27, 2007Assignee: Black & DeckerInventors: James D.
