Publication number: 20090113955Abstract: A deadbolt device for a door is disclosed that has a linkage assembly enclosed within a handle. The linkage assembly extends from a first end to a second end and is moveable from a locked position to an unlocked position. A lock housing extends through the door and includes a guide channel that extends from an interior side of the lock housing to an exterior side of the lock housing. A locking member, at least a portion of which is in the guide channel, is operatively connected to the linkage assembly and is moveable from a locked position to an unlocked position, which correspond to those of the linkage assembly. A biasing mechanism is operatively connected to the locking member and biases the locking member to its locked position. A dogging member is moveably connected to the lock housing such that the dogging member can move from an undogged to a dogged position.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 6, 2007Publication date: May 7, 2009Applicant: Blumcraft of PittsburghInventor: Timothy J. Patent number: 4793115Abstract: A method of cladding a metal extrusion, such as aluminum or the like, with a piece of cladding material, such as brass, bronze, stainless steel, etc., is provided which comprises the steps of: (1) applying a strip of adhesive material, preferably double-faced tape, to a top surface of the extrusion; (2) placing the cladding material against the extrusion so that a cover portion of the cladding material is in overlying, spaced relation to the adhesive material; (3) applying pressure to the cladding material to force it into contact with the adhesive material; and (4) bending a bottom portion of the cladding material around a lower edge of the extrusion to create a constant spring-tension between the cladding material and the adhesive material. Also disclosed is the cladded metal extrusion obtained by the above method.Type: GrantFiled: November 12, 1987Date of Patent: December 27, 1988Assignee: Blumcraft of PittsburghInventor: William J. Patent number: 4763453Abstract: A metal frame and glass panel structure has a metal shoe having a receiving channel, the receiving channel having at least one smooth side surface and an opposite side surface spaced apart from the smooth side surface; a glass panel positioned within the channel against the smooth side surface and spaced apart from the opposite side surface; at least two independent expandable pressure units positioned within the channel between the glass panel and the opposite side surface of the channel; and means within the pressure units for generating a pressure against the opposite side surface of the channel whereby the pressure units are forced against the glass panel to secure the glass panel within the channel. A pair of adjustment screws is provided in the channel, upwardly extending from the bottom thereof, for squaring the glass panel with the shoe. A strip of double-face tape is provided on the one side surface of the channel to prevent the glass panel from slipping relative to the shoe.Type: GrantFiled: June 29, 1987Date of Patent: August 16, 1988Assignee: Blumcraft of PittsburghInventor: William J. Horgan, Jr.

Patent number: 4688406Abstract: A deadbolt lock mechanism for a door comprises a lock cylinder secured to a lock housing and having a movable locking tab connected thereto, a lock bolt slidably mounted within a channel in the housing, a disk rotatably mounted within the housing having a transverse pin extending therefrom, and a lever having an opening therein within which a portion of the transverse pin is disposed, the lever being pivotally mounted at one end to the housing and connected at the other end to the lock bolt. Upon rotation of the locking tab, the disk is rotated through actuation of the pin, and the lever is pivoted by the transverse pin engaging the sides of the opening within the lever to slide the lock bolt into an extended locked position or a retracted unlocked position, the lock bolt being deadlocked in position by the detent feature created by the geometrical relationship between the transverse pin and the sides of the opening within the lever.Type: GrantFiled: April 1, 1986Date of Patent: August 25, 1987Assignee: Blumcraft of PittsburghInventor: William J. Horgan, Jr.

Patent number: 4523414Abstract: A glass door assembly is provided with at least one door, at least one sidelight, and a transom above the door, with a transom bar disposed beneath the glass transom, with the transom bar being supported from above the transom, such as from a ceiling, and preferably in such a way as to present an unsupported, floating appearance for the bar. The bar is carried by rods at ends of the transom, with the weight of the transom being supported by the transom bar, and with the rods preferably being unobtrusive and hidden from view. The transom bar is provided with a bearing arrangement for facilitating the pivoting of a door pivot therein. A number of adjustment features are provided, for the bearing of the door pivot, and for the transom support rod, both vertically and laterally. The transom bar also ties in with sidelights at its ends, for mutual support between the sidelight, the transom bar and the transom, all of which cooperate to provide rigidifying support for the door.Type: GrantFiled: May 19, 1983Date of Patent: June 18, 1985Assignee: Blumcraft of PittsburghInventor: William J. Patent number: 4506922Abstract: The present invention provides a combination door and panic handle for use on the interior side of entrance doors. In one mode of operation the panic handle may be moved inwards toward the door face to unlatch the door. In this mode of operation the door may be opened on the exterior side by use of a key. In an alternative mode of operation, the panic handle is "locked-out" and prevented from moving. In this mode of operation the door is unlatched and the panic handle may be used as a fixed door handle. In the movable mode of operation, pressure may be applied along any portion of the panic handle to facilitate unlatching the door. The operating mechanism of the panic handle is concealed presenting a smooth uncluttered appearance. A new anti-rattle and sound deadening feature is also provided for the latch mechanism, and a particularly unique adjustment feature for in-field adjustment of latch length extension is also provided.Type: GrantFiled: September 14, 1983Date of Patent: March 26, 1985Assignee: Blumcraft of PittsburghInventor: William J.
