Abstract: Apparatus for removing floor tile mastic from a floor includes a scouring unit enclosed within a shroud coupled to a plenum through which air can be drawn by a vacuum unit including a HEPA filter. Water or other liquid is delivered from a reservoir to the region of the scouring unit to wet any asbestos fibers in the floor tile mastic. The liquid supply and the flow of air through the filter are monitored and the operation of the scouring unit is inhibited at any time the supply of liquid or the flow of air falls below selected values.
