Patent number: 9044381Abstract: The present invention is concerned with delivering a pharmaceutical composition to the brain of a mammalian subject for treating brain diseases or disorders. The process includes the steps of: (i) providing a dispersion of the pharmaceutical composition as particles having an average particle size of from about 150 nm to about 100 microns, and (ii) administering the dispersion to the mammalian subject for delivery to the brain of a portion of the pharmaceutical composition by cells capable of reaching the brain. The dispersion of the pharmaceutical composition as particles, for example, can be phagocytized or adsorbed by the cells prior or subsequent to administration into the mammalian subject. The dispersion of the pharmaceutical composition can be administered to the central nervous system or the vascular system. After administration, the loaded cells transport the pharmaceutical composition as particles into the brain.Type: GrantFiled: June 15, 2004Date of Patent: June 2, 2015Assignees: BAXTER INTERNATIONAL INC., BAXTER HEALTHCARE SA, Board of Regents of the University of Nebraska by and Behalf of the University of Nebraska Medical CenterInventors: Barrett Rabinow, James E. Kipp, Howard Gendelman

Patent number: 7598356Abstract: The present invention relates to a two-step method for isolating proteins from the cystine-knot superfamily based on dye ligand affinity chromatography and reversed-phase chromatography. Advantageously, the method can be performed in a relatively short period of time, involves inexpensive reagents, and requires little sample preparation before and during the purification process. Protein fusions between cystine-knot proteins and proteins of interest are further provided for the isolation of said protein of interest or complexes containing said protein of interest using the two-step method disclosed.Type: GrantFiled: July 8, 2004Date of Patent: October 6, 2009Assignee: Board of Regents of the University of Nebraska by and on Behalf of the University of Nebraska Medical CenterInventors: Elliott Bedows, Jason A. Patent number: 7469512Abstract: A fabricated wall system employs a plurality of modular wall sections that may be coupled to laboratory benches, cabinets or the like, within the laboratory environment. Each modular wall section comprises a frame including an upper frame portion having one or more slots formed therein for receiving demising panels. The demising panels provide a wall surface within the upper frame portion for demising or separating the laboratory environment into distinct areas. The lower frame portion includes a slot for receiving demising panels removed from the upper frame portions, thereby providing for self-storage of the panels behind the laboratory bench.Type: GrantFiled: June 22, 2004Date of Patent: December 30, 2008Assignee: Board of Regents of the University of Nebraska by and behalf of University of Nebraska Medical CenterInventors: Mike Faber, Chuck Niemeyer
