Patent number: 6782346Abstract: A system and method for facilitating design and analysis of a selected component, subsystem, system, or structure of an aircraft. In one embodiment the system and method analyzes an aircraft's electrical power generation and distribution system (EPGDS). The system and method autonomously estimates all screen variables from two inputs, those being the number of engines and maximum takeoff weight, and further allows a designer to override any variables relating to the EPGDS of the aircraft, including the configuration of the EPGDS. Variables can be locked in by the designer such that the system will use those locked in variables in subsequent calculations. Patent number: 6781686Abstract: Two laser inputs having pulse durations of about 50-100 femtoseconds are directed to an area of a surface to be interrogated. The lasers are aligned so that their surface areas of optical illumination overlap on the interrogated surface. An optical delay line temporarily synchronizes the two inputs. An output wavelength discriminator receives reflections of the inputs from the interrogated surface and is substantially non-transmissive at the frequencies of the first laser input and the second laser input, but is substantially transmissive at the sum-frequency of the first input and the second input. Imaging optics direct the propagation of the output so that a real image is formed. Patent number: 6779708Abstract: An apparatus and method for joining structural members to form preforms and structural assemblies are provided. The structural members are positioned so that joining surfaces thereof define an angled aperture, such a slot or frustoconical bore, that receives a corresponding joining member. The joining member is urged into the aperture against the joining surfaces and moved, for example, by oscillating or rotating the joining member, to friction weld the joining member to the structural members. Each structural member can include a clamping portion that is received by a clamping device that prevents the aperture from opening as the joining member is urged into the aperture.
