Patent number: 6297453Abstract: The present invention relates to a cable protector for underwater craft remote-controlled by cable. The function of the cable protector is to protect the operating cable of the underwater craft against wearing and catching on a surface mother-ship from which the craft is operated. The cable protector guides the operating cable out to such a great depth that it runs clear of the ship. At the same time, the cable protector allows the cable to run out in any chosen direction, while limiting a deflection angle at which the operating cable leaves the cable protector. The cable protector includes telescopically acting helical springs and a link system at a lower portion which prevents the operating cable from bending too tightly while it ensures that the cable runs out in the direction of the underwater craft.Type: GrantFiled: December 9, 1999Date of Patent: October 2, 2001Assignee: Bofors Underwater Systems ABInventors: Anders Wigh, Mathias Falk, Jan Siesjö

Patent number: 5793703Abstract: This invention relates to improvements in or relating to digital time-delay acoustic imaging. According to the invention there is provided an acoustic imaging method for marine survey and other purposes comprising the steps of: insonifying a target area by periodic acoustic pulses; detecting reflections of said pulses by an array of at least two receiver transducers, which transducers generate respective output signals in response thereto, wherein further the signals are: sampled in time at a predetermined rate during an interval between said pulses; converted from analog to digital form; processed so as to generate a composite acoustic signal for each pixel in the insonified target area required to be imaged; and match-filtered with optimised filters in the frequency domain with an estimated source pulse signature.Type: GrantFiled: November 12, 1996Date of Patent: August 11, 1998Assignee: Bofors Underwater Systems ABInventor: Geoffrey Arthur Shippey

Patent number: 5688012Abstract: A device in a lifting crane for releasing and recovering a load provided with a recovery cable comprises a lifting yoke having an aperture extending in a lifting direction of the lifting yoke, the recovery cable being slidable through the aperture; two locking members pivotally journalled in the lifting yoke about tangential axes of rotation, the locking members jointly capable of recovering and supporting a load while in a first position and, upon pivoting to a second position, releasing a supported load; and two regulating levers, one for each locking member, each regulating lever having a first end journalled on the axes of rotation of a respective locking member and a second end attached to a single biasing member, such as a spring interconnecting the pair of regulating levers, the pair of regulating levers, in combination with the spring, having an open position which forces the locking members to the second position for releasing a load and a closed position which, in combination with the spring, forcesType: GrantFiled: April 1, 1996Date of Patent: November 18, 1997Assignee: Bofors Underwater Systems ABInventors: Jan Siesjo, Anders Wigh

Patent number: 5407373Abstract: A propulsion system for water vessels comprises a rotor located at the rear end of the vessel body, which rotor rotates inside a shroud to generate a propulsion force, and a stator located behind the rotor for recovering the rotation energy created by the rotor. An unexpected high noise reduction is accomplished because the rotor is mounted on a hollow drive shaft, through which an axle extends which is fixed to the body of the vessel, and which axle support the stator and the shroud that surrounds the rotor, without further supporting devices.Type: GrantFiled: December 16, 1993Date of Patent: April 18, 1995Assignee: Bofors Underwater System ABInventor: Bjorn Allenstrom
