  • Patent number: 4345990
Abstract: Disclosed is a method for recovering oil and gas from carbonaceous materials utilizing two molten baths. In the first molten bath reaction vessel, the carbonaceous material is thermally devolatilized. Part of the first melt from the first reaction vessel containing non-volatile constituents is passed to the second molten bath reaction vesel which contains a different melt at a higher temperature. The two melts are only partially soluble in each other so that they can be easily separated. Oxygen, air or oxides are charged to the second reaction vessel for gasifying residual quantities of carbon by oxidation. The first melt is returned to the first reaction vessel from the second reaction vessel. The melt in the first reaction vessel may comprise lead or zinc and be maintained at a temperature of 500.degree. C., while the melt in the second reaction vessel may comprise raw iron and be maintained at a temperature of 1200.degree. C.

  • Patent number: 4304595
Abstract: A method of producing crude iron from sulphidic iron-containing material, where an iron sulphide containing material is charged to a furnace space and there, together with a silica containing material and oxygen, is smelted to an iron-silicate smelt during combustion of sulphidebound sulphur present, so that said smelt contains approximately 70-90% by weight iron calculated as iron (II) oxide. To the smelt is then added a reducing agent in a manner such that the iron content calculated as iron (II) oxide falls to approximately 60% by weight or lower in the presence of lime and/or other fluxing agents and that formed crude iron is separated. The iron content of the iron silicate smelt is then increased by adding further iron sulphide containing material and oxygen for smelting and reducing agent for another reduction.

  • Patent number: 4276052
Abstract: A method of crystallizing a solution of aluminium sulphate to form crystal agglomerates having an essentially uniform grain size and being in the form of granules having a characteristic appearance and good storage properties. A solution having a temperature of 105.degree.-115.degree. C. and a concentration of 14.5-16.8% by weight of Al.sub.2 O.sub.3 is brought to crystallize onto a bed of crystalline aluminium sulphate in a drum, the length of which is considerably larger than the diameter, a temperature of 70.degree.-95.degree. C. being maintained in the bed. Part of the crystalline product discharged from the drum is ground and recycled to the drum in an amount of 40-200 percent by weight of added solution and air is passed through the drum to remove moisture evolved by the crystallization so as to form a final product with more than 75% by weight present in the crystalline state and containing 15.0-18.0% by weight of Al.sub.2 O.sub.3.

The rotary converter is suitably operated with a rotation corresponding to a peripheral speed of approximately 0.
