Patent number: 6698531Abstract: A hand-guided vibration tamper, which is driven by a motor laterally cantilevered on the tamper head, is provided with guard plates covering its underside and lateral sides. The underside and lateral guard plates are connected to a housing for the motor, and the underside guard plate is fastened near its free end to the motor and/or an air circulation hood for the motor. Preferably, the underside guard plate is a thick-walled aluminum plate screwed together with the lateral guard plates and extends beyond to protect the air circulation hood with its extension. Advantageously, the motor is also protected by a substantially closed, upper covering connected to the lateral guard plates.Type: GrantFiled: March 27, 2002Date of Patent: March 2, 2004Assignee: Bomag GmbH & Co., oHGInventor: Hans-Werner Kürten

Patent number: 6619125Abstract: A method and a device are provided for determining the degree of compaction during ground compaction with a roller or a vibrating plate compactor comprising a top section and a vibrating plate. The method involves determination of one or more amplitude values of the vibration at approximately the excitation frequency of the plate relative to the top section, one or more amplitude values of one or more vibrations of the plate relative to the top section at a maximum of 60% of the excitation frequency, and the quotient of the aforementioned amplitude values as a measure of the current degree of compaction of the ground. The device includes a sensor for non-contact detection of the relative movements between the top section and the vibrating plate or roller.Type: GrantFiled: June 18, 2001Date of Patent: September 16, 2003Assignee: Bomag GmbH & Co. Patent number: 6554532Abstract: The invention concerns a device for ground compacting, having at least one vibrating roller whose casing surface is composed of a plurality of segments in the peripheral direction, at least some of which have midpoints which describe an arc having a radius of curvature that deviates from the mean radius of the roller. In order to smooth the jolting movement resulting from the shape of the rollers in devices of this type, it is proposed to construct the tire casing of the roller from several sections lying adjacent to one another in the axial direction, said sections having segments abutting one another in the peripheral direction, whereby the abutting edges are displaced vis-à-vis one another in the peripheral direction.Type: GrantFiled: August 22, 2000Date of Patent: April 29, 2003Assignee: Bomag GmbH & Co. Patent number: 6551019Abstract: A device for checking the compaction, in particular, of black top pavement in street and roadway construction, using a vibration roller drum that is provided with a compaction checking device is provided. In the compaction of black top pavement, the measurement methods of the dynamic ground rigidity, known from ground compaction, for determining the condition of compaction that has been achieved, can not be used since the asphalt rigidity varies between two measurements with the temperature and in addition, the underground rigidity is measured with it proportionately. In order to solve these problems, a second vibration roller drum is provided which has a second compaction checking device, whereby the second vibration roller drum is coupled to the first vibration roller drum essentially following it in the same track. In this way, for the comparison of the values determined, the temperature dependence of the measurement values determined is eliminated.Type: GrantFiled: November 22, 2000Date of Patent: April 22, 2003Assignee: Bomag GmbH & Co. oHGInventors: Karl Hermann Mötz, Uwe Blancke
