In one aspect of the disclosed embodiments, the audio processing system divides the input audio signal into different frequency bands, and enhances a spatial component of the input audio signal with respect to a nonspatial component of the input audio signal for each frequency band.

    Abstract: An audio system provides for crosstalk processing and crosstalk compensation processing of an audio signal. The crosstalk processing may include crosstalk cancellation processing or crosstalk simulation processing. A crosstalk processed signal is generated by applying the crosstalk processing to a side channel of the left and right channels, with a mid channel of the left and right channels bypassing the crosstalk processing. The crosstalk processed signal and the mid channel that bypasses crosstalk processing is used to generate a left output channel and a right output channel. In some embodiments, a crosstalk compensated signal is generated by applying crosstalk compensation processing to the side channel. The crosstalk compensated signal adjusts for spectral defects caused by the crosstalk processing. The crosstalk processing and crosstalk compensation processing may be applied in different orders.

For each client device, placement data defining spatial locations of other client devices within a sound field is determined. A mixed stream including a left mixed channel and a right mixed channel for the client device is generated by mixing and panning input audio streams of the other client devices according to the placement data. A spatially enhanced stream including a left enhanced channel for a left speaker and a right enhanced channel for a right speaker is generated by applying subband spatial processing and crosstalk processing on the left mixed channel and the right mixed channel of the mixed stream.

A first component and a second component in a first audio coordinate system is generated from a third component and a fourth component of the audio signal in a second audio coordinate system. One or more gain factors are applied to each of the third component and the fourth component to generate an adjusted third component and an adjusted fourth component, and a first output channel and a second output channel in the second audio coordinate system are generated from the adjusted third and fourth components. The first and second output channels are each limited below the amplitude threshold from application of the one or more gain factors.

    Abstract: Embodiments relate to an audio processing system that adjusts for unmatched speakers, such as by frequency response, output power, directionality, etc. For example, a mobile device may include an earpiece speaker and a micro-loudspeaker. The audio processing system may include a crossover network that separates an input audio signal into a low frequency signal and a high frequency signal. Subband spatial processing and b-chain processing are applied to the high frequency signal to spatially enhance the input signal, and adjust the input signal for the unmatched speakers. The low frequency signal is processed using a parametric band-pass filter and a first gain to generate a low frequency resonator signal, and a second gain to generate a low frequency passthrough signal. The processed low frequency signals are provided to the micro-loudspeaker by combination with one of a left channel or a right channel of the processed high frequency signal.

The system may include a spatial frequency band divider, a spatial frequency band processor, and a spatial frequency band combiner. The spatial frequency band divider processes the left input channel and the right input channel into a spatial component and a nonspatial component. The spatial frequency band processor applies subband gains to subbands of the spatial component to generate an enhanced spatial component, and applies subband gains to subbands of the nonspatial component to generate an enhanced nonspatial component. The spatial frequency band combiner combines the enhanced spatial component and the enhanced nonspatial component into a left output channel and a right output channel. In some embodiments, the spatial component and nonspatial component are separated into spatial subband components and nonspatial subband components for the processing.

The audio processing system generates left and right crosstalk channels such as by applying a filter and time delay to the left and right input channels, and mixes the spatially enhanced channels with the crosstalk channels. In some embodiments, the system includes high/low frequency enhancement channels and passthrough channels derived from the input channels, which can be mixed with the output audio signal.
