  • Patent number: 4648279
Abstract: Flow rate of an electrically conductive medium flowing through an electrically insulating pipe section is measured as a function of electrical voltages induced in the medium by electromagnetic fields generated by an exciter coil energized by a pulsating direct current. To eliminate noise signal components the repetition rate of the pulsating direct current applied to the exciter coil is set as an even integer multiple of a frequency of alternating current interference voltage component and the detection of measuring signals occurs in adjustable pick-up intervals of equal length so that a group of four or an integer multiple of four is detected during each period pertaining to the frequency of the interference voltage. Then every second detected measuring voltage is reversed in polarity and thereafter the measuring voltages in each group are integrated whereby the noise components are neutralized and a sum of pure useful voltage components is obtained.

  • Patent number: 4631951
Abstract: An arrangement for testing a flow meter which issues a first train of pulses in response to the rotation of a rotatable member thereof includes a measuring cylinder-and-piston unit that has a cylinder, a piston slidably received in the cylinder and displacing a known comparison volume of a fluid out of the cylinder for delivery to the flow meter, and a piston rod which extends to the exterior of the cylinder. A photoelectric sensing arrangement is mounted on the piston rod for joint movement therewith along a stationary volume scale to scan distancing markings of such scale and issue a second train of pulses in response to the detection thereof. A first of such distancing markings is so situated that the sensing arrangement encounters the same only after the piston rod has covered an initial distance corresponding to a running-in distance of the piston.

  • Patent number: 4619134
Abstract: Disclosed is a testing device for at least one flow meter installed in a pipeline. The device includes a calibration container connected to the pipeline across a switch-over valve. A measuring piston is guided for reciprocating movement in the container between a starting and a terminal position. The measuring piston supports two signal releasing rings which are spaced apart from the other about a distance which when multiplied by the inner clearance of the calibration container determines a calibration volume of the measuring path of the piston. At least one signal generator is installed in the wall of the calibration container and cooperates in a contactless manner with the first and second signal releasing rings so as to produce start and stop pulses for one measuring cycle. The flow meter is connected to a pulse generator responsive to the flow rate and connected to an evaluation circuit which after completion of a measuring cycle compares the counted pulses with the calibration volume.

  • Patent number: 4385526
Abstract: A flow meter, especially for measuring fluid flow passing through large-diameter conduits, in which a rod-shaped vortex generating body is built in a conduit section in a direction transverse to the fluid stream passing therethrough and in which Karman vortices detach themselves, the frequency of which, which is measured by feeler elements, corresponds to the speed of the fluid passing through the conduit. In order to assure that the aforementioned vortices detach themselves uniformly over the whole length of the vortex generating body even if the flow meter is built into a conduit of large diameter, the tube section is divided by at least one thin dividing wall into two vortex chambers. The vortex generating body is arranged normal to the aforementioned dividing wall, and the feeler elements for the sensing of the vortex frequency are arranged in one of the vortex chambers.
