  • Patent number: 10835962
Abstract: A boring bar apparatus comprising a boring bar having at least one tool aperture formed therein. An axial translation mechanism for axially indexing the boring bar. The axial translation mechanism comprises a feed screw assembly having a threaded section, a rotational converter mechanism coupling the boring bar to the feed screw assembly for incrementally rotating the feed screw assembly, and a feed coupling having a first end engaging with the feed screw assembly and a second end engaging with the boring bar. The first end of the feed coupling having a threaded half nut section which, in a first position, engages with the feed screw assembly to facilitate axially indexing of the boring bar, and, in a second position, disengages from the feed screw assembly to facilitate moving both the feed coupling and the boring bar relative to the feed screw assembly to assist with repositioning of the boring bar.

  • Patent number: 7984560
Abstract: A method of measuring an interior diameter of a bore with an expandible gauge having relatively movable first and second components and placing an adhesive on at least one of the first and the second components for adhesively bonding the first and the second components to one another. Inserting the expandible gauge into a tool hole in a bore bar and sliding the bore bar into the bore so that the tool hole is located within the bore. Allowing the expandible gauge to expand to a diameter of a bore to be measured and adhesively bond the first and the second components to one another. Removing the expandible gauge and determining the diameter of the bore by measuring a length of the expandible gauge.

  • Patent number: 7402097
Abstract: A bore honing device comprising a support assembly including first and second end support elements connected by a base support which supports an axial guide track. A trolley engaging with the guide track and the trolley being movable along the guide track for guide movement of a bore honing tool supported by the trolley. At least one adjustable guide is provided for limiting travel of the trolley along the guide track. A weight compensation mechanism is connected between the trolley and a desired end wall of the support assembly for exerting a force on the support assembly when a bore honing device is vertically oriented to compensate for the weight of the drive motor, the trolley and the honing tool.

  • Patent number: 6737608
Abstract: An apparatus, for providing a welding bead on a surface to be welded, comprises an arm supporting a welding torch in which the welding torch facilitates welding on a desired surface. A spindle supports the arm and the welding torch and at least a portion of an exterior surface of the spindle carries a thread. A motor supplies rotational drive to the spindle and causing rotation of the spindle and the arm which supports the welding torch. A framework supports a clutch, the drive and at least a portion of the spindle, and the clutch is supported by the framework so as to be engageable with the thread carried by the exterior surface of the spindle.

  • Patent number: 6621035
Abstract: A welding device that facilitates depositing of a welding bead on a surface to be built-up. The welding device includes a housing accommodating a rotatable spindle therein, a drive mechanism coupled to the spindle to facilitate rotation thereof, and a second rider circumscribing the spindle and supporting a second gripper member. The second gripper member surrounds the spindle and allows the second rider to move axially with respect to the spindle in one direction but prevents axial movement of the second rider with respect to the spindle in an opposite direction. A first rider also circumscribes the spindle and is located between the driven mechanism and the second rider. The first rider supports a first gripper member that surrounds the spindle and allows the spindle to move axially with respect to the first gripper member in one direction but prevents axial movement of the spindle with respect to the first gripper member in an opposite direction.

  • Patent number: 6486438
Abstract: A rotary welding attachment member comprising a cam member having a cam surface and a rotatable base movable relative to the cam member. The rotatable base supporting a support rod and the support rod supporting a rider block which is movable along the support rod. A movable torch head, supporting a welding tip, being supported by the rider block. The torch head being coupled to the rotatable base via a flexible coupling to facilitate conveyance of a welding wire and a welding gas to the torch tip while the rotatable base, the support rod, the rider block and the torch head facilitating a supply of electrical current to the torch tip. An indexing mechanism, at least partially support by the rotatable base and cooperating with the cam surface, moves the rider block radially inwardly or outwardly along the support rod as the rotatable base rotates.

  • Patent number: 6284995
Abstract: This invention relates to the art of machine repair. The present invention relates to an expandable, automated, welding device and methods used to build up material on the inner surface of a bore so that the bore can be restored to original working order. More particularly, the invention relates to the welding and repair of bearing or bore surfaces. The present invention is designed to allow easy setup and use through means of easy adjustment of the apparatus through manual adjustment of the significant positioning parameters, simple linear controls to adjust process parameters of the buildup process, and, relatively small in size. Moreover, the device allows for easy expansion of the welding torch allowing for a very broad range of engagement sizes. The present invention has a compressed air cooling means to prevent operation failure under high temperature conditions. Furthermore, a non-conductive coating has been applied to the welding torch making it less prone to damage, and safer to operate.

  • Patent number: 6137076
Abstract: A welding material supply mechanism for providing a welding bead on a surface comprising: a first hollow arm, a transfer tube, a second hollow arm, swivel bearing and a welding nozzle. The first hollow arm is connected to the second hollow arm by a swivel bearing, and a remote end of the second hollow arm supports a nozzle for facilitating welding on a surface. The swivel bearing facilitates pivoting movement of the second hollow arm relative to the first hollow arm to adjust a diameter of the welding bead to be formed on the surface, and a locking coupler facilitates locking the pivoted and adjusted position of the first hollow arm relative to the second hollow arm. The transfer tube is at least partially received within the first hollow arm and is concentric therewith. The transfer tube supports a female electrical connector coupled to the swivel bearing, the transfer tube establishes a welding electrical current path to the nozzle via the swivel bearing and the second hollow arm.
