Patent number: 4517810Abstract: An environmental control system for controlling the environmental conditions in a swimming pool hall 1 comprises a heat pump having a multi-section evaporator 8, compressors 23a and 23b and a multi-section condensor 18.In the day-time, the dry bulb temperature in the pool hall is maintained by circulating space air through a duct 3 to the evaporator 8 where the latent heat is recovered from the moisture laden air. This heat is rejected via the condensor 18 either to the now drier recirculated air or fresh air from an inlet 13 or a mixture of air from the two sources. In a night mode of operation, circulation of space air through the duct 3 is prevented and instead it is recirculated via a direct recirculation duct 53 and is heated by the condensor 18, the heat used to do this being recovered from outside air inducted into the evaporator 8 via an inlet 50.Type: GrantFiled: December 16, 1983Date of Patent: May 21, 1985Assignee: Borg-Warner LimitedInventors: Peter N. Foley, Alan M. Turbard

Patent number: 4395250Abstract: A chain tensioning device comprises a pair of arms 2, 3 which are pivoted together and urged apart, so that the arm 3 applies a tensioning force to a chain, by means of a block 9 biased by a compression spring 10 axially along the arm 2 in conjunction with links 14 coupled between the block 9 and the arm 3 and serving to pivot the arm 3 relative to the arm 2, in response to such spring biased axial movement of the block 9. A catch disc 12 and rod 6 arrangement is provided to prevent return movement of the spring loaded block 9 and hence collapse of the arm 3 under load reversals of the chain.Type: GrantFiled: January 30, 1981Date of Patent: July 26, 1983Assignee: Borg-Warner LimitedInventor: Alan G. King

Patent number: 4395251Abstract: A chain tensioning device comprises a pair of arms 2, 3 which are pivoted together and urged apart so that the arm 3 applies a tensioning force to a chain by means of a spring loaded cam block 5. A catch disc 9 and rod 8 arrangement is provided to prevent return movement of the spring loaded block and hence collapse of the arm 3 under load reversals of the chain.Type: GrantFiled: January 30, 1981Date of Patent: July 26, 1983Assignee: Borg-Warner LimitedInventors: Alan G. Patent number: 4342238Abstract: An automotive drive system is disclosed including a continuously variable drive system including input and output pulleys and a belt intercoupling the pulleys, a hydrodynamic device, a forward-reverse gear set, a reduction gear set and a differential assembly where the elements are mounted along two axes. The hydrodynamic device, forward-reverse gear set and the input pulley of the continuously variable drive system are mounted along the first axis. The output pulley, the reduction gear set and the differential assembly are mounted along the second axis which is coaxial with the longitudinal axis of the axle shafts. The reduction gear set includes both a high-speed and a high-torque gear train, and the high-torque gear train is an integral element of the final drive differential. The hydrodynamic device includes a lock-up clutch for direct drive through the hydrodynamic device at operating road speeds.Type: GrantFiled: January 28, 1980Date of Patent: August 3, 1982Assignee: Borg-Warner LimitedInventor: Derek Gardner

Patent number: 4235126Abstract: A compact automatic transmission of the planetary type adapted for front wheel drive installations including a Ravigneaux gear set and four friction elements whereby 3-forward drive ratios and one reverse ratio may be established, and a first shaft is provided connected directly to the engine and a second shaft being connected to be driven through a hydraulic torque converter. Each of the shafts is connected to drive an element of the gear set whereby a partly hydraulic and partly mechanical drive is provided. In addition, only one friction element need be engaged for each of the ratios established by the transmission.Type: GrantFiled: June 28, 1978Date of Patent: November 25, 1980Assignee: Borg-Warner LimitedInventor: Derek Gardner

Patent number: 4131032Abstract: A sprocket gear assembly comprising a sheet metal cup-shaped sprocket member having teeth formed from the sheet metal on an annular outer portion and a central hub having splines formed therein, the hub and outer portion being separated by a radial flange on each side of the sprocket assembly. The radial flange on one side is integral with the annular outer portion, and the hub may either be integral therewith and secured to a disc forming the other radial flange, or may be integral with the other radial flange and secured to said one radial flange, with the other radial flange welded to the annular outer portion. Alternatively the hub may be formed as a sheet metal component and is secured to the cup-shaped member.Type: GrantFiled: June 2, 1977Date of Patent: December 26, 1978Assignee: Borg-Warner LimitedInventors: George W. Warland, Norman F. Crisp
