The screw (40) has front end (41) and a rear end (42) separated from an intermediate cylindrical section (43). A sleeve (7) which extends from the rear shell (32) receives the second end (42) of the screw (40) and allows the screw (40) to axially slide with respect to the rear shell (32). A stop (61) on the intermediate section (43) prevents the second end (42) from projecting from the rear shell (32) until the first end (41) is rotated into engages the front shell (31) and threads on the second end engage corresponding threads on a support (1) to fix the booster (2) to the support (1).

Each of the upstream and downstream branches (21,22) of the carrier provides a stop (611,622) to one of the inboard and outboard pads (51,52) however, each of the pads (51,52) only comes into abutment against one of the upstream and downstream branches. The upstream and downstream branches (21,22) being connected to a base (23) different cross-sections and correspondingly different stiffness in a ratio of between 0.80 to 1.25 to resist forces applied to the stop (611,622) without appreciable degradation in the operational performance of the disc brake.

The inlet and outlet chambers being sealed from each other by an elastic annular seal (14) which is carried by the piston (12). The inlet and outlet chambers are in communication with each other through a one way valve located in a passage in the piston which is actuated by a tappet. The seal (14) substantially has a rectangular cross section which is filled without axial clearance in a groove (120) in the piston (12). The seal has internal recesses which are exposed to any pressure present in the inlet chamber so as to urge the seal (14) against the bore with a force which varies as the inlet pressure in the inlet chamber.

The reaction piston (34) delimits within the cylinder a reaction chamber (36) which is isolated from the interior volume (V) of the master cylinder (200).
