Patent number: 11039562Abstract: An implement for clipping weeds in a field, where the weeds are standing taller than the crop. The implement comprises a plurality of rotatable blades on a frame, with variable height adjustment means to elevate the frame and position the blades above the crop but at a level sufficient to clip the upper portions of the weeds, The blades are powered by PTO-driven shaft segments, the segments connected by U-joints, wherein the implement further comprises alignment means for aligning the U-joints so that the frame can be folded for transport without damaging the shafts or U-joints.Type: GrantFiled: February 26, 2016Date of Patent: June 22, 2021Assignee: F.P. Bourgault Tillage Tools Ltd.Inventor: Joseph Bourgault

Patent number: 6966270Abstract: A seeding tool for depositing seeds and fertilizer within a furrow including a knife opener having a liquid wing projecting from the side thereof for providing and maintaining spacing between the seeds and fertilizer. Preferably, the liquid wing is a tungsten carbide insert secured to the side of the knife opener, and has a wing shaped structure which is shaped and sized to space the fertilizer apart from the seeds, to protect the end of the tube from which fertilizer is dispensed, and to present a small leading surface which displaces the soil easily and presents minimal resistance. Preferably, the largest, side surface of the liquid wing insert is inclined toward the side of the knife opener from a widest lower, rear member adjacent the end of the fertilizer tube to a narrower top, front member near a leading end of the knife opener.Type: GrantFiled: September 19, 2003Date of Patent: November 22, 2005Assignees: Kennametal Inc., F. Patent number: 6571884Abstract: A novel solution for changing sweeps or knives on a cultivator or other soil working tool is the subject matter of the present invention. In today's farming world, where labor is at a premium and time is of the essence, a sole operator or farmer in preparing the fields for planting, summer fallow or other operations will sometimes need to change the sweeps or knives which till the ground several times for different crops or operations. The novel invention herein provides for an apparatus for quickly removing the sweeps (2) on cultivator shanks and replacing them with other soil openers of different width or configuration. A simple press button (7) releases the sweep (2) from an adapter bolted to a standard cultivator shank. The present invention eliminates the problem of sweeps falling off shanks due to lack of friction or difficulty in removing sweeps because of over friction.Type: GrantFiled: April 4, 2002Date of Patent: June 3, 2003Assignee: F. Patent number: 6363871Abstract: A unique quick change system constitutes the present invention. The invention comprises a two-piece seed boot holder and spreader for use with air seeding devices used in agriculture. The seed boot holder is adapted to bolt onto the shank of an ordinary cultivator behind a seeding opener. The spreader portion of the seed boot matingly engages the holder and is secured by an easily removable pin. Depending upon the desired spread of the seed and fertilizer and the size of the trench created by the seeding opener, various spreader attachments can be used. Thus, the invention allows the farmer to quickly change the spread of seed and/or fertilizer to match his quick change seeding opener without effort and no reconstruction.Type: GrantFiled: October 12, 1999Date of Patent: April 2, 2002Assignee: F. Patent number: 5711378Abstract: A tapered adaptor (10) disposed at a free, leading end of a cultivator shank (S) is arranged to co-operate with a blocking member (27). The blocking member (27) defines forwardly facing abutment surfaces (28, 29). They engage a rear edge portion (54) of the socket (46) of a sweep when the sweep is subjected to a hard impact which would otherwise force the socket beyond the position required for a firm wedging frictional grip with the adaptor (10). Thus, the undesired displacement excessively beyond the required grip position is prevented to enable removal of the socket (46) on exchange of the sweep by a hammer blow. A retainer pin (32) is resiliently held in a transverse groove (31) by the nose (35, 36) of a pair of flat springs. Thus the free movement which might result in loss of the pin 32 is prevented while allowing relatively easy withdrawal of the pin when the sweep is to be knocked off the adaptor. Several alternative embodiments are mentioned.Type: GrantFiled: April 17, 1996Date of Patent: January 27, 1998Assignee: F. P. Bourgault Tillage Tools, Ltd.Inventor: Linus I. Yeager
