Abstract: A process for the preparation of the compound L-5-(2-acetoxypropionylamino)-2,4,6-triiodoisophthaloyl dichloride by reacting 5-amino-2,4,6-triiodoisophthaloyl dichloride with L-2-acetoxypropionyl chloride in N,N-dimethylacetamide as a solvent, characterized in that a catalytic amount of a lower alcohol is added to the reaction mixture.
Abstract: Disclosed is a new process for the crystallization of (S)-N,N'-bis[2-hydroxy-1-(hydroxymethyl)ethyl]-5-[(2-hydroxy-1-oxopropyl)a mino]-2,4,6-triiodo-1,3-benzendicarboxamide (I), using a linear or branched (C5-C6) alcohol or their mixtures.
Abstract: A process for the preparation of 2-amino-1,3-propanediol comprising the catalytic hydrogenation of 1,3-dihydroxyacetone oxime in the presence of rhodium supported on alumina is described.
Abstract: Gas or air filled microbubble suspensions in aqueous phases usable as imaging contrast agents in ultrasonic echography. They contain laminarized surfactants and, optionally, hydrophilic stabilizers. The laminarized surfactants can be in the form of liposomes. The suspensions are obtained by exposing the laminarized surfactants to air or a gas before or after admixing with an aqueous phase.

Abstract: Disclosed are injectable suspensions of gas filled microbubbles in an aqueous carrier liquid usable as contrast agents in ultrasonic echography. The suspensions comprise amphipathic compounds of which at least one may be a laminarized phospholipid as a stabiliser of the microbubbles against collapse with time and pressure. The concentration of phospholipids in the carrier liquid is below 0.01% wt but is at least equal to or above that at which phospholipid molecules are present solely at the gas microbubble-liquid interface. Also disclosed is a method of preparation of the stable suspensions of air or gas filled microbubbles.

Abstract: A process for the preparation of 5-amino-2,4,6-triiodoisophthalic acid dichloride by chlorinating 5-amino-2,4,6-triiodoisophthalic acid with thionyl chloride in the presence of a suitable solvent and of a tertiary amine salt or quaternary ammonium salt in a molar ratio from 1;1 to 1;2 with respect to 5-amino-2,4,6-triiodoisophathalic acid is described. 5-amino-2,4,6-triiodoisophthalic acid dichloride is an intermediate useful for the preparation of iodinated contrast agents.

Abstract: Suspensions of either echogenic or magnetic particles in aqueous bioadhesive carriers effectively improve imaging by echography, respectively NMRI, of the digestive tract. Affinity of the compositions for the gastric mucosa can be adapted to the needs by appropriately selecting the carrier in function to inherent bioadhesive capacity: this technique leads to improved visualization of selected portions of the lumen.
