  • Patent number: 6732619
Abstract: A cutter mechanism for use in a printer. The cutter mechanism includes a base and a cutter blade slidably fixed relative to the base. The cutter blade is movable along a cutting path in a first direction between a retracted position and a forward position through a cutting position. A breaker bar is fixed relative to the cutter blade, and is spaced from the cutter blade when the cutter blade is in the retracted position to define a web path between the breaker bar and the base. A first biasing member urges the blade in a second direction away from the breaker bar to completely disengage the blade from the breaker bar. The second direction is not parallel to the first direction.

  • Patent number: 6727441
Abstract: A switch lever lock out assembly engagable with a switch. The assembly includes a lock out body engageable with a switch to prevent operation of the switch. A lever engaging member is mounted to the body, and has a lock position and an unlock position. In the lock position, the lever engaging member prevents disengaging the body from the switch. A blocking member is movably fixed to the body, and is engageable with the lever engaging member to prevent movement of the lever engaging member relative to the body when the lever engaging member is in the lock position. The blocking member is locked relative to the body by a key engageable mechanism. In another aspect of the invention, the key is fixed to a tether forming part of the assembly, and the key is lockable in a lock rail fixed within an area defined by the tether.

  • Patent number: 6644876
Abstract: A cartridge identification system for identifying a characteristic of a cartridge inserted in a printer. The cartridge identification system comprises an identification circuit which is triggered by an electrical connection between a printed circuit board coupled to the cartridge and a plurality of spring contacts in a cartridge receptacle in the printer. An electrical logic signal is read by an internal processing unit, which determines a characteristic of the cartridge based on the logic signal.

  • Patent number: 6618024
Abstract: A label for identifying an object includes a radio frequency transponder and a hologram. The radio frequency transponder has an antenna and a transponder circuit sandwiched between two layers of material which form exterior surfaces of the transponder. The hologram comprises a first layer of non-metallic material applied to one of the exterior surfaces and forming a non-metallic reflector of light. A generally transparent second layer contains a holographic image and extends across the first layer. Because the reflective first layer is made of a non-metallic material, its close proximity to the radio frequency transponder does not detune the transponder as may occur when metallic holograms are placed in close proximity to the transponder. Thus the hologram provides a deterrent to unauthorized use of the label without affecting the operation of the radio frequency transponder.

  • Patent number: 6604874
Abstract: A printer mechanism having a receptacle for receiving a printer cartridge therein. A print head is disposed in the receptacle, and a platen roller is rotatable about a roller axis. The platen roller is movable between a printing position in close proximity to the print head for urging labeling media and ink ribbon toward the print head and a nonprinting position in which the roller platen is spaced a distance from said print head to allow the labeling media and ink ribbon to be slipped therebetween. A platen roller gear is coaxial with said platen roller, and is engaged with a drive gear when the platen roller is in the printing position and disengaged from the platen roller gear when the platen roller is in the nonprinting position. A lever is linked to the platen roller, and is movable between a lock position and an unlock position.

  • Publication number: 20030146967
Abstract: A method of accessing stored printing parameters from a memory associated with a specific supply and simultaneously processing a group of thermal elements. The thermal element group generally comprises consecutive thermal elements. The processor concurrently considers the thermal element group and the dot history of thermal element group. The method of simultaneously processing the thermal element group comprises packing the thermal element group into a dot history pattern and forming a multiple thermal element organizational table. Thereafter, the multiple thermal element organizational table is used by the processor to determine and regulate energy delivered to each thermal element in the thermal element group. Furthermore, by simultaneously processing the thermal element group, processor efficiency can be elevated. Thus, the method permits a printer to increase printing speed and reduces the workload of the processor associated with the printer.
