  • Patent number: 4723915
Abstract: A wall outlet jack has a housing defining a row of terminal compartments each containing a bifurcated insulation displacement electrical terminal having a conductor receiving slot. A conductor stuffer releasably secured to the housing includes a plurality of stuffing members equal in number of the compartments. Each stuffing member has first and second parts which receive a terminal therebetween and a third part which extends through the conductor receiving slot in an associated terminal and connects the first and second parts. The third part controls stuffing depth and strengthens the conductor stuffer. The conductor stuffer also cooperates with the housing to provide a conductor strain relief device.

  • Patent number: 4653046
Abstract: There is provided an improved subscriber carrier system which enables the transmission of both voice frequencies and carrier frequencies by a common line without the need for a battery at the subscriber carrier terminal to supply power for the subscriber carrier electronics. A high voltage power supply is utilized to supply power, both for the voice frequency terminal and the subscriber carrier terminal. Loop supervision circuitry is isolated from the power supply. Ringing signals are detected and regenerated at a frequency to pass through the isolation circuit.

  • Patent number: 4648678
Abstract: A wall plug jack has a housing which defines a plug receiving cavity and contains a circuit board assembly which includes a row of cantilever spring contacts electrically connected to separate circuits imprinted on the circuit board. Each spring contact has a pair of legs connected together by an integral reversely bent arcuate connecting portion which subtends an arc of at least 180 degrees between distinct integral junctions formed with the legs. One of the legs has a free end and is at least partially disposed within the cavity. A row of insulation displacement terminals equal in number to the spring contacts are supported on the housing and electrically connected to the spring contacts by circuits imprinted on the circuit board. Each terminal has a generally L-shaped configuration defined by a mounting portion and a pair of spaced apart fingers which extend from said mounting portion and define a slot therebetween. The walls of the slot converge toward an opening at the free end of the terminal.

  • Patent number: 4612412
Abstract: A non-metallic outlet box assembly attached to an associated wall stud includes a pair of substantially identical, generally rectangular outlet boxes and a mounting bracket molded from resilient, high-impact, plastic material. Each outlet box is open at its front end and has top, bottom and side walls, at least portions of which converge toward one end of the box. The boxes are connected to each other and to the mounting member, by substantially parallel coengaging rails and channel members. The two outlet boxes are connected in snap-together assembly with each other and are incrementally adjustable in unison relative to the mounting member and a wall stud to which the mounting member is attached. Clamping members associated with cable receiving openings in each outlet box are adjustable to clamping positions wherein associated cables are clamped to the box to resist separation therefrom and to closed positions wherein each clamping member forms a substantial closure for an associated cable receiving opening.

  • Patent number: 4607905
Abstract: An FCC-type modular plug, including a dielectric housing receiving a plurality of conductors. The conductors are terminated by a plurality of electrical contacts. Individual conductors are received between barriers which rise from the floor and between barriers descending from the ceiling inside of the connector in the vicinity where the conductors are terminated by the contacts. Part of each of the barriers is inclined to the ceiling and floor, respectively. The barriers form guiding grooves which guide the conductors into position for termination by insulation displacing contacts. A strain relief mechanism incorporates ratchet teeth for allowing variable movement into cable clamping position.

  • Patent number: 4589719
Abstract: There is provided an electrical coupling assembly which utilizes an in-line electrical coupling device mounted through a hole in a standard wall face plate. The coupling is adapted to receive a modular plug on each end. Grooves are provided on portions of the body of the coupling for receiving C-shaped spring clips on either side of the plate for securing the coupling to the plate.

  • Patent number: 4542946
Abstract: There is provided a power safety lock system including at least a pair of electrical contacts, one of which is adapted to be connected to ground and the other adapted to receive electrical energy. A slide bar including a substrate with a plurality of bore holes therein is adjacent to electrical contacts. A mating connector associated with the grounded electrical contact is adapted to press against an incline surface in one of the bore holes to move the slide bar from a first to a second position, thus enabling a second mating connector to make contact with the electrical contact which receives electrical energy.

  • Patent number: 4541680
Abstract: A telephone/CATV adaptor comprises a generally rectangular panel molded from dielectric plastic material for attachment to an associated wall outlet box to provide a closure for the box. The panel carries a modular telephone jack for receiving a mating modular telephone plug and a bulkhead connector to facilitate connection of a coaxial cable through the panel. A plurality of integral pedestals project from the panel and define body portions of a plurality of electrical connectors. Each connector body portion has a blind bore which includes an inner end portion of square cross section. Insulated terminal end portions of a electrical connectors to be electrically connected to each other are each received within an associated corner of the bore inner end portions. A single threaded fastener, sized to cooperate with the bore, has sharp-edged thread convolutions which cut into the walls of the square bore portion and into insulation on the conductors.

  • Patent number: 4488125
Abstract: Novel discrete coaxial cable and coaxial cable assembly constructions are disclosed. One preferred embodiment of the invention is a flat coaxial cable assembly. The invention also provides a novel method for manufacturing the coaxial elements which are the primary structural components of the coaxial cables and assemblies. In this method a signal wire and at least one drain wire are embedded in a minor matrix of dielectric material. A portion of the minor matrix material is peeled or skived away to expose the drain wire or wires. The resulting product is then wrapped in metal foil so that the foil makes electrical contact with the exposed drain wires. This step yields a completed coaxial element. A single element may be embedded in a major matrix of dielectric to yield a coaxial cable or several elements may be so embedded to yield a coaxial cable assembly.

  • Patent number: 4481379
Abstract: There is provided an improved flat electrical communications cable which includes a plurality of coplaner pairs of elongated, insulated conductors. The pairs of conductors are embedded in a jacket which supports the cable and maintains the spacing among the conductors and pairs. The spacing between conductors in a pair is substantially less than the spacing between each adjacent pair. The jacket is thicker in the regions around each pair and thinner in the regions between each pair, thus forming the valleys and ridges on each side of the jacket. An elongated metal shield covers at least one side of the jacket. The shield conforms to and is contiguous with the valleys and ridges resulting in somewhat of a sinusoidal cross-sectional appearance of the shield. Each conductor includes a dual insulation, the inner insulation being made from a flame retardant material and the outer insulation being made from a different material from the jacket.
