    Abstract: For use with a road/rail vehicle that is convertible from a road mode for traveling on a road, to a rail mode for traveling on rails, an apparatus for mounting a rail wheel to the vehicle. The apparatus comprises an air bag bearing against the rail wheel and the vehicle frame such that the vehicle frame is supported on the rail wheel by the air bag and such that the vehicle frame can move up and down with respect to the rail wheel in response to motion of the vehicle along a set of rails. A stop mechanism is attached to the vehicle frame and to the rail wheel and is operative to allow the vehicle frame to move down with respect to the rail wheel only to a stopped position where adjacent road wheels of the vehicle are above the rails. A kit allows installation on existing road/rail vehicles.

    Abstract: A belt conveyor for conveying granular material comprises a tube and a hopper. Guide members guide the belt from a flat orientation as the belt leaves the lower roller into a cupped orientation as the belt enters the hopper. The cupped orientation is maintained by sliding contact at an interface between the lower surface of the belt and the hopper walls as the belt passes through the hopper. Left and right baffle members are attached along the hopper side walls and thereby prevent the granular material from sliding down the hopper walls into contact with the interface between the lower surface of the belt and the hopper walls. The belt has a width that is substantially fully exposed to granular material entering the hopper. A method of increasing the capacity of a belt conveyor comprises reducing the width of the flashing covering belt side portions.

    Abstract: The present invention entails a transverse type pressure averaging primary device that is designed to be mounted within a duct and designed to sense both total and static pressures of fluid flow passing within the duct. More particularly, the pressure averaging primary system of the present invention includes high and low pressure lines that extend transversely across the duct and which generally includes multiple pressure sensing points along the lines for sensing both total and static pressure. In the case of the high pressure line, the respective total pressure sensing points thereof are appropriately confined within cylindrical shrouds. Selected cylindrical shrouds include extensions that extend to and are secured to the low or static pressure line for structurally integrating and reinforcing the spans of the high and low pressure lines.

    Abstract: A nozzle pitot primary for effectively sensing and measuring differential or velocity pressure of a system of air or gas flowing within a duct or conduit. By determining differential or velocity pressure, it is appreciated that the air or gas flow can be readily determined. The nozzle pitot primary of the present invention comprises a nozzle designed to be installed within a duct or conduit with the nozzle including a constricting throat area relative to the duct or conduit in which the same is installed. Air or gas passing through the duct or conduit is directed through the nozzle so as to produce a generally uniform and predictable velocity profile within the nozzle downstream from the throat area therein. An array of static and total pressure pitots are provided in association with the nozzle and are spaced inwardly across a constricted area where the velocity profile is relatively uniform.

    Abstract: The present invention entails a branch averaging pitot system for sensing differential pressure within a system of air or gas and providing a differential flow signal to a flow transmitter forming a part of the air monitoring system of the present invention. The branch averaging pitots include an array of shrouded total pressure pitots strategically spaced about the cross sectional area of an air receiving duct assembly and down stream from a honeycomb type air flow straightening section. In addition, an array of static pressure pitots are also provided, and wherein the respective static and total pressure pitots are communicatively connected by separate manifolds internally within the air receiving duct assembly. Openings in the pitots are relatively small (0.030 inches to 0.060 inches), and said transmitter is adapted to continuously direct a flow of purging air therefrom back to and through the pitots in order to keep them open at all times.

Thus, although flow between two points may be basically defined as a square root function of a differential pressure between the same two points, the flow measuring device of the present invention utilizes a differential pressure input signal to produce an output signal that is linear with flow.
