Abstract: Slaughtered poultry, which has already been headwise introduced into a plastic bag member, is placed in a holder with a mouth of the plastic bag member being oriented upwardly. Two upper pivotal jaws are moved together to form a narrow cylinder about an upper end of the poultry, an overlying tubular member is forced down into a narrow cylinder for pressing the leg ends of the poultry downwardly, with the piston having a bottom closure which is active as a piston end but openable to enable a free bag mouth portion to be drawn into the tubular piston when vacuum is applied to the upper ends thereof. When the bottom closure is thereafter closed, the drawn up bag mouth portion will be clamped to the piston and the piston is rotated for twisting the bag mouth portion. Thereafter, the bag holder is moved past a tape applicator device for fixing of the twist bag mouth portion, with the bag portion outside of the tape being cut off and drawn away through the piston.

Abstract: A folding box of the type having an openable end flap, the outer end of which is provided with a free folding flap which, when the end flap is closed, is put down along the inside of the box front panel opposite to the rear panel, to which the end flap is hinged, the closed box being provided with a cover portion located at the outside of the said end flap and connected with opposed edge portions of the box opening normally closed by the end flap, such that the cover portion prevents opening of the end flap, said cover portion being connected with at least one of the said edge portions across a rupture line whereby, when said rupture line is broken or the cover portion is entirely torn off, the end flap is freely openable.

Abstract: A plastic sheet packing or packing member of the flat folding bag type, primarily for pipe tobacco, the mouth opening of which is sealed in a welded manner enabling it to be opened without rupturing the sheet materials adjacent the mouth opening. The mouth is closed by a type of welding providing a good sealing effect though being releasable by mechanical pull to facilitate opening of the packing. The opposed surface portions of the mouth area may be welded direct to each other in this manner, or a separate, removable closing strip may be arranged along and across the mouth and secured by the releasable type of welding. This type of welding may require mutually different materials to be joined, and this is obtained either by the use of said separate strip or by using a sandwich sheet for the packing itself.

Abstract: A tobacco or similar packing of the folding bag type, i.e. comprising a strip of sheet material which is folded about a transverse folding line offset from the middle of the strip so as to present a front panel having a free top edge and a bottom edge constituted by said folding line, and a rear panel extending upwardly from said bottom edge to beyond the top edge of the front panel, the side edges of the adjacent panels being joined so as to define a flat bag portion, the rear side of which is extended into a flap portion beyond the top of the bag portion, said flap portion being folded or adapted to be folded down along the front side of the bag together with the uppermost part of the bag portion, about a second transverse folding line underneath the top edge of the front panel, and being fastened or adapted to be fastened in a releasable manner to the exterior surface of said bag portion by means of adhering fastening means.

Abstract: A sales and dispenser carton box having in its top panel a dispenser opening normally closed by an internal closing plate portion constituting an integral part of the blank from which the box is erected and being displaceable to open and close the opening, the closing plate being hinged to the free edge of an end panel portion of the box pivotally secured to the box along its opposite edge, and the closing plate being held slidingly against the inner side of the top panel by means of at least one side flap projecting from the side edge of the closing plate down along the respective side panel of the box so as to be slidingly supported by an elongated rigid portion of the box. The box may be designed so as to have a breakable seal.

Abstract: A packaging machine for inserting a batch of semi-compressible articles into preformed bags open at one end, having a longitudinal ram movable toward and away from the open bag and batch receiving means located at the leading end of the ram to carry the batch into the open bag, the batch receiving means having a pair of generally elongated flat parallel walls extending forwardly of the leading end of the ram and spaced from each other to receive the batch therebetween. At least one of said walls is flexible along its length and engages means located at the entrance of the bag by which it is deflected transversely of the direction of movement to impart a compressive force upon the articles as they are inserted into the bag.

Abstract: A packaging machine for inserting semi-compressible articles into preformed bags comprises an upper gripping member, a lower gripping member which can be raised towards the upper gripping member to clamp therebetween extension portions of a stack of bags, the lower gripping member mounting means for temporarily retaining the bags of the stack of bags relative to the lower gripping member and means for inserting articles through the open end of the upper bag. The arrangement is such that the gripping members grip the extensions of the bags so that articles can be inserted into the upper bag, the articles undergoing limited compression against the end wall of the bag after which the clamping pressure is released. The filled bag then moves relative to the lower gripping member, the force applied to the bag being sufficient to overcome the restraint imposed by the temporary retaining means.
