Patent number: 7434963Abstract: A new lighting system is provided that is particularly useful in projecting light to a deck where pilots use night vision goggles (NVGs). The system comprises a pair of subsystems that project light with different, complementary spatial distributions. One subsystem projects light with one spatial distribution, and the other lighting subsystem projects light with another spatial distribution that supplements the light from the first subsystem, so as to provide a system that effectively illuminates an entire target. The system is designed to substantially filter light so that the light does not interfere with NVGs. The system includes new optical projection structure that minimizes the overall size of the projection structure, and maintains good efficiency.Type: GrantFiled: November 23, 2005Date of Patent: October 14, 2008Assignee: Breault Research Organization, Inc.Inventors: Mark E. Patent number: 6097549Abstract: A bireflective lens element comprising a light input surface and a direct transmitting area communicating with the light input surface. A light source is disposed adjacent to the light input surface for projecting light into the lens element to create a light emitting assembly. A first portion of input light is directed through the lens elements in a first predetermined pattern. A primary and a secondary reflecting area is between the light input surface and an illumination surface surrounding the direct light transmitting area. A second portion of input light is redirected through the lens element to the illumination surface in a second predetermined pattern. Specifically, the secondary reflective area has a plurality of extracting facets extending inwardly into the secondary reflective area for intercepting light from the primary reflective area.Type: GrantFiled: August 12, 1998Date of Patent: August 1, 2000Assignee: Breault Research Organization, Inc.Inventors: David Jenkins, Robert Pagano, Marie Cote, Joseph A. Patent number: 5729640Abstract: A portable scatterometer and/or an angular radiated light measurement instrument that uses a measurement head which includes a double tapered fiber optic bundle with a concave front face to simultaneously collect partial or full hemispherically scattered light reflected from a point on a surface illuminated by a depolarized, telescopically focused, laser diode source, the light rays being received by each fiber normal to its face. The image of the collected light beams is minified and coupled by the fiber optic bundle into an anti-blooming CID camera with an x-y scanning area array which converts the light beams to electrical signals. In a unique real time, computer-controlled, data acquisition and reconstruction process, a frame grabber a unique algorithm are used to collect over 200,000 points of light reconstruct the data into a 2D or 3D scatter profile and display the results, all within one second. Multiple embodiments of the tapered fiber optic bundle collector are disclosed.Type: GrantFiled: June 7, 1995Date of Patent: March 17, 1998Assignee: Breault Research OrganizationInventor: Raymond Joseph Castonguay
