  • Patent number: 4735167
Abstract: A mooring system for connecting a vessel having an opening in its bow, to a fixed non-compliant offshore structure allows the moored vessel to weathervane 360 degrees around the structure while it is being loaded or while it tranfers fluids back to the production structure. The mooring system includes an outer boom pivotally mounted to the structure and an inner boom slidably mounted to the outer boom. The inner boom has an inboard end slidably mounted within the outer boom and a curved outboard end extending beyond the inner boom and defining an opening. The assembly of the inner and outer boom is articulated so that it may be placed in contact with a mooring receptacle of the vessel so that the opening in the inner boom is adjacent to mooring receptacle of the vessel. An elongated mating link is retained by the inner boom and extends through the aligned openings in the inner and in the bow of the vessel.

  • Patent number: 4655642
Abstract: A structure having a polygonal base and sloping sides forming a frustrum includes a load bearing outer skin which contains an inner assembly and an outer assembly. Both the inner and outer assemblies include a skin plate member which is stiffened by stiffeners welded to one side of the skin plate member. The stiffeners are located at spaced intervals from each other and are disposed substantially perpendicular to the skin plate member. The inner and outer assembly are placed substantially parallel to each other to form a composite structure having an internal cavity defined by the inner and outer plates. The stiffeners of the inner assembly and the outer assembly are disposed in the cavity at a spaced relation to each other and extend partly into the cavity. A cementitious material substantially fills the cavity thereby completing the load bearing outer skin structure. The stiffeners may be flat steel plates or may have the profile of structural shapes such as angles or T's among others.

  • Patent number: 4582611
Abstract: A process for removing contaminants from soil or aquifers. The process uses wick drains which include an outer filter medium supported by a rigid inner perforate member. The wick drains are inserted into the contaminated soil or aquifer, water is injected into one or more of the wick drains, and water and contaminants are removed from one or more wick drains. The wick drains are inserted by placing the wick drains in mandrels and driving them into the soil or aquifers, in a manner similar to that in which piles are driven, at a rate of up to about 8,000 to 10,000 linear feet per day.

  • Patent number: 4478537
Abstract: A marine structure comprising a cellular caisson which forms a stable platform for carrying out a variety of offshore operations in the arctic and sub-arctic regions is provided. The structure may be grounded on reasonably level sea bottom with a minimum of sea bed preparation in shallow water or mounted upon a previously prepared berm. Resistance to local ice forces is provided by the hexagonal cellular arrangement of the perimeter and interior walls which make up the cellular caisson. Global foundation resistance is obtained by introducing a suitable quantity of ballast into the structure. The design allows clusters of two or more structures to be grouped together to augment the offshore installation and to permit the offshore installation to be developed in stages at the site.
