  • Patent number: 11852651
Abstract: Disclosed is a method for determining the installation orientation of an accelerometer system relative to a vehicle within which it has been installed. The method comprises obtaining a plurality of acceleration measurements within the co-ordinate frame of the accelerometer system and then analysing the distribution of these measurements to determine the relative installation orientation. In particular, the measurements can be grouped according to the vehicle movement phase at which they were obtained and the measurements within the groups then used to determine the lateral and horizontal planes of the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 11653127
Abstract: A server (16) arranged to automatically detect replacement of a vehicle battery (6) associated with a vehicle engine (5) comprises: a communications device (20) configured to receive vehicle battery voltage measurements from a telematics device (10) connected to or incorporating a voltage monitoring unit for the vehicle battery (6); and one or more processors (18) configured to process the vehicle battery voltage measurements. The processor(s) (18) monitor the voltage measurements in a first time window corresponding to an engine off state and assess when the voltage measurements in the first time window indicate a step change in voltage magnitude at a given time. The step change is then used to automatically identify a vehicle battery replacement event.

  • Patent number: 11587375
Abstract: A method of operating a wireless communication device installed in a vehicle to transmit data indicative of trips made by the vehicle to a remote device. An ignition state of the vehicle is determined, wherein said ignition state includes at least an ignition ‘on’ state. A time window is defined based on a time at which the vehicle is determined to be in the ignition ‘on’ state, and a type is assigned to a trip to be made by the vehicle, wherein the trip is of a first type when input data indicative of an input by a user on an input device operatively connected to the wireless communication device is received in the defined time window, and is otherwise of a second type. A message is generated, at least for trips of the first type, indicating the type assigned to the trip, and is wirelessly transmitted to the remote device.

  • Patent number: 11398115
Abstract: A wireless communication device for collecting vehicle on-board diagnostics (OBD) data is disclosed, together with associated methods of handling OBD data in such wireless communication devices. The device comprises a connector for connecting the device to an OBD port of a vehicle to receive OBD data; a processor configured to continually aggregate the OBD data and/or acceleration data from an acceleration sensor into risk profile data during a journey made by the vehicle; a memory for storing the latest risk profile data for the journey; and a wireless transceiver for transmitting the stored risk profile data to an external mobile device during the journey.
