  • Patent number: 4875875
Abstract: A modular connector for field termination of an electrical cable containing a plurality of individually insulated conductors and having a body, a contact carrier in snap-in assembly with the body and a cover assembly for snap-in assembly with the body in the field and including a cover and a cable strain relief member attached to the cover by a living hinge. The cable strain relief member is arranged for snap-in assembly with the body in the field. A stuffing member carried by the cover sets each conductor in an associated contact of IDC type mounted on the contact carrier as the cover is snapped into assembly with the body. A blade mounting on the contact carrier cooperates with a shearing member depending from the cover to trim the free ends of the conductor during cover assembly. Assembly of the cover with the body also applies strain relief to the cable and each of the conductors and also deflects the trimmed conductors away from the shearing blade.

  • Patent number: 4874904
Abstract: An outlet box having a frontal opening and faceplate assembly including an insert received within the outlet box and defining a forwardly opening bore and a faceplate mounted on the outlet box and forming a closure for the frontal opening. A fiber optic bulkhead connector is mounted on the faceplate for coupling to an elongated optical fiber, a portion of which is stored in coiled condition within the bore. When the faceplate is removed from the outlet box, the coiled portion of the fiber allows the faceplate to be moved a substantial distance from the outlet box for access to the coupled connection between the optical fiber and the bulkhead connector without subjecting the fiber to excessive bending stress.

  • Patent number: 4850901
Abstract: A communications outlet having a baseplate assembly for mounting adjacent a wall surface includes bulkhead connectors and at least one modular plug receptacle for terminating optical and electrical cables. A spool barrel on the baseplate provides for the orderly storage of excess fiberoptic cable. The bulkhead connectors are carried by mounting members releasably secured to the baseplate which permits independent access to each terminated cable for movement to a position remote from the outlet to facilitate convenient servicing without risk of damage to the other terminated cables which comprise the outlet system. A cover cooperates with the mounting members to provide an enclosure for containing the terminated cables. An optional faceplate may be used in conjunction with the cover.

  • Patent number: 4687289
Abstract: A fiberoptic splice organizer having a main body channel containing a pair of strain relief cradles to which jacketed end portions of spliced fiberoptic cables are clamped and providing storage space for looped portions of the cables. At least one shallow fiber tray is clamped to the main body channel and provides a closure for a portion of the open end of the channel and storage space for looped fibers which comprise the cables. A splice holder secured within the one tray supports an array of parallel tubular splices and releasably retains the splices in position while the splice organizer is further assembled. A splice holder cover which overlies the splice holder to further retain the splices in the holder and a protective cover which provides a closure for the fiber tray complete the assembly. The splice holder cover be assembled with the splice holder in either of two positions to accommodate either hot splices or mechanical splices, which differ in size.
