Patent number: 6800671Abstract: Compositions having a curable unsaturated compound, an adhesion promoter and curing agent which have a peak exotherm of less than 50° C. are disclosed. The compositions when cured are flexible bioadhesives which are also disclosed. Non-curable diluents can be included in the compositions. Flexible bioadhesives formed on biological structures and having low peak exotherms upon curing of curable compositions to form the flexible bioadhesives are disclosed. Compositions having a curable unsaturated compound and a curing agent and a peak exotherm of less than 50° C. are included in the invention.Type: GrantFiled: April 21, 2000Date of Patent: October 5, 2004Assignee: BriteSmile, Inc.Inventors: Robert Eric Montgomery, Anthony J. Publication number: 20020137001Abstract: The present invention provides a device for tooth whitening which has a light source, at least one optical output a projection means for holding and positioning said optical output outside of a patient's mouth in a manner to so as to provide approximately simultaneous and uniform illumination of a patient's front teeth by said optical output; and a connection means for connecting said light source to said optical output. Also provided are methods of using the tooth whitening device with a tooth-whitening composition containing a transparent carrier compound and a transparent oxidizing compound which when in contact with the surface of a stained tooth and exposed to actinic light is activated to facilitate tooth whitening.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 14, 2002Publication date: September 26, 2002Applicant: BriteSmile, Inc.Inventors: Anthony J. Cipolla, John W. Warner, Michael A. Williams, John E. Prey

Patent number: 6361320Abstract: A method for whitening teeth which utilizes laser light to activate bleaching agents applied to the teeth. The mouth is first prepared so that the soft tissues of the gums are protected and only the teeth are exposed. The teeth are cleaned to remove any materials which will reduce or nullify the effects of the bleaching agents. A first bleaching composition comprising a peroxide compound is prepared and applied to the teeth. The teeth are exposed to laser light from an argon laser which light activates the peroxide to accelerate the bleaching process without heat. If further whitening is desired, a second bleaching composition comprising a peroxide compound is prepared and applied to the teeth. The teeth are briefly exposed to laser light from a carbon dioxide laser which heat activates the peroxide to accelerate the bleaching process.Type: GrantFiled: June 21, 2001Date of Patent: March 26, 2002Assignee: Britesmile, Inc.Inventor: David K. Yarborough

Patent number: 5645428Abstract: A method for whitening teeth which utilizes laser light to activate bleaching agents applied to the teeth. The mouth is first prepared so that the soft tissues of the gums are protected and only the teeth are exposed. The teeth are cleaned to remove any materials which will reduce or nullify the effects of the bleaching agents. A mixture of peroxide and a first catalyst are prepared and applied to the teeth. The teeth are exposed to laser light from an argon laser which light activates the peroxide and catalyst to accelerate the bleaching process without heat. Next, a mixture of peroxide and a second catalyst are prepared and applied to the teeth. The teeth are briefly exposed to laser light from a carbon dioxide laser which heat activates the peroxide and catalyst to accelerate the bleaching process.Type: GrantFiled: December 12, 1995Date of Patent: July 8, 1997Assignee: BriteSmile, Inc.Inventor: David K.
