  • Patent number: 10855373
Abstract: In an FTTDP optical fibre network, Distribution point units are reverse powered by customer premises equipment and therefore liable to power failure. When the distribution point unit loses power it is unavailable to respond to requests for performance or metric data. A persistent manager agent functions as a proxy for the distribution point unit, gathering metric and performance data from the distribution point unit using at least one EOC channel and handling requests for performance and metric data issued from other network devices. The persistent manager can also schedule downloads of firmware and configuration data to the distribution point unit.

  • Patent number: 10848991
Abstract: A loss of connection between a wireless access point and a network is reported to a network-based service platform by the wireless access point by automatically establishing wireless contact with a second wireless access point, and transmits a predetermined fault report message to a predetermined network platform address by way of the second wireless access point and the second network interface. Authentication credentials are stored in the access point allowing automatic access to the service platform without user intervention, to allow the report to be generated without user intervention. The message may include data on recent usage of the access point, or may be repeated when a user attempts to use the access point, in order to prioritise the fault reported at the service platform.

  • Patent number: 10841034
Abstract: A spread spectrum system is used for transmitting data to and from devices operable as sensors and actuators in a distributed system. Communication is made through a series of aggregation nodes in a branched hierarchical network. Each device and aggregation node has a respective spread spectrum code, and has a corresponding encoder/decoder in a central control system operating the same spread spectrum codes, the encoded data relating to the devices being aggregated over a shared channel. At each level in the hierarchy the aggregated signals to/from the next level are recoded. This allows the same codes to be re-used at different levels, and in different sub-branches in the same level, increasing the number of devices that can be served on one channel.

  • Patent number: 10833934
Abstract: A network management method is described for managing energy utilisation in a network comprising network elements that handle network traffic. The network elements are analysed to identify at least one candidate network element for energy usage reduction. Routes passing through the candidate network element are then identified and at least one alternative route is identified for each identified route. Each identified route is switched onto the at least one alternative route, wherein the alternative route does not pass through the original candidate network element. Finally, the candidate network element is triggered to enter a lower power mode. In a particular embodiment, a quality of service level associated with each identified route is determined and the method ensures that the alternative route has an associated quality of service level equal to or better than the original quality of service level. Systems and apparatus for implementing the method are also described.
