Publication number: 20120272307Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for non-cryptographic capabilities of a token such as a smartcard to be used as an additional authentication factor when multi-factor authentication is required. Smartcards are configured to generate a transaction code each time a transaction is attempted by the smartcard. The transaction code is dynamic, changing with each transaction, and therefore is used as a one-time password. When a user attempts to access a service or application requiring at least two authentication factors, a secure processor is used to read transaction code from the smartcard. The secure processor establishes a secure communication with the remote computer hosting the service or application. The transaction code can then be encrypted prior to transmission over the public Internet, providing an additional layer of security.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 26, 2012Publication date: October 25, 2012Applicant: Broadcom CorporationInventor: Mark BUER

Publication number: 20120269192Abstract: Downstream synchronous multichannel (DSSM) communications are provided among a plurality of carriers, each being a completely DOCSIS™ 2.0-compliant downstream. The synchronous multichannels support communications with both DSSM-capable communications nodes and non-DSSM-capable communications nodes (e.g., legacy cable modems). Non-DSSM packets are transmitted on a single channel. DSSM packets are split into multiple pieces, which are transmitted simultaneously on all available channels. Since the physical delay variation (e.g., group delay change) across the adjacent carriers is small (on the order of a symbol time), the multiple pieces arrive at the receiving communications nodes at nearly the same time and can be reassembled with minimal buffering and no packet ordering problems. To avoid causing trouble for the non-DSSM-capable communications nodes, the packet pieces are encapsulated with a header that causes the non-DSSM-capable communications nodes to silently discard them.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 5, 2012Publication date: October 25, 2012Applicant: Broadcom CorporationInventors: Daniel H. HOWARD, Niki R. PANTELIAS, David M. PULLEN, John D. HORTON, JR., Thomas J. QUIGLEY, Richard S. PRODAN

Publication number: 20120270511Abstract: Embodiments of the present disclosure provide systems and methods for estimating gain and phase error in a wireless transmitter. Embodiments of the present disclosure provide a gain and phase controller that uses a digital gain and phase estimator to jointly estimate both gain and phase. The forward and feedback signals of a wireless transmitter are digitized using analog to digital (ADC) converters. The digital signals are correlated with each other to dynamically extract gain and phase estimates of the loop. Patent number: 8295344Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatuses for performing rate control for encoding of video frames are provided. A first timestamp is received that indicates a capture time for a prior video frame. A second timestamp is received that indicates a capture time for a current video frame. A time difference between the second timestamp and the first timestamp is determined. An average video data bit encoding rate is multiplied by the determined time difference to calculate a bit budget. An indication of a number of video data bits that have been encoded is received. The number includes a number of encoded video data bits of the prior video frame and of any further video frames encoded subsequent to the prior video frame and prior to the current video frame. A virtual buffer fill level is adjusted based on a difference between the indicated number of video bits that have been encoded and the calculated bit budget. A quantizer parameter is adjusted based on the adjusted virtual buffer fill level.Type: GrantFiled: October 22, 2007Date of Patent: October 23, 2012Assignee: Broadcom CorporationInventors: Wenqing Jiang, Weiping Pan

Patent number: 8294612Abstract: A global navigation satellite system (GNSS) enabled mobile device may be operable to assert one of autoblank signals when RF interference is detected in received GNSS signals for one of consecutive first time windows. The asserted autoblank signals are monitored by the GNSS enabled mobile device over time intervals corresponding to consecutive second time windows and a rate at which the autoblank signals are asserted for each of the consecutive second time windows is determined by the GNSS enabled mobile device based on the monitoring. The GNSS enabled mobile device may be operable to determine whether to blank processing of the received GNSS signals based on the determined rate. The autoblank signals may be asserted by the GNSS enabled mobile device based on a number of the received GNSS signals whose absolute signal levels exceed a signal level threshold for the first time window.Type: GrantFiled: August 9, 2011Date of Patent: October 23, 2012Assignee: Broadcom CorporationInventors: Charles Abraham, Kambiz Shoarinejad, Jared Welz
