Abstract: A method and network device provides port scheduling for data ports in the network device. The network device may assign data ports of the network device into port groups according to port characteristics of the data ports. The network device may schedule processing time slots for active data ports by determining a selected port group based on group selection parameters. The network device may then determine a selected data port from the selected port group using port selection criteria. The port selection criteria may maintain minimum and maximum packet spacing requirements for the data ports of a port group. The network device may also maintain an active ports list to disqualify inactive data ports from selection.

The receiver frequency and timing may be adjusted coarsely prior to fine adjustment. The coarse receiver frequency and the timing adjustment may be based on processing a primary synchronization signal and a secondary synchronization signal.

  • Publication number: 20140023130
Abstract: Embodiments of an apparatus and method for selective single-carrier (SC) equalization are provided. Multipath propagation in a communication channel often changes, and the severity of multipath propagation is often below worst case conditions supported by a SC communication device. When multipath propagation is less severe and below worst conditions, the use of frequency-domain equalization (FDE) in a SC receiver to mitigate ISI can be overkill and can result in excess power being consumed. The excess power consumption can be attributed to the general inability of the structure used to perform FDE to scale in terms of performance with channel conditions. Embodiments of the apparatus and method for performing selective equalization in a SC receiver allow either FDE or time-domain equalization (TDE) to be performed based on the current multipath propagation conditions of a communication channel. In general, TDE is used in place of FDE to conserve power when channel conditions permit.

  • Patent number: 8634783
Abstract: A communication device includes memory, an input interface, a processing module, and a transmitter. The processing module receives a digital signal from the input interface, wherein the digital signal includes a desired digital signal component and an undesired digital signal component. The processing module identifies one of a plurality of codebooks based on the undesired digital signal component. The processing module then identifies a codebook entry from the one of the plurality of codebooks based on the desired digital signal component to produce a selected codebook entry. The processing module then generates a coded signal based on the selected codebook entry, wherein the coded signal includes a substantially unattenuated representation of the desired digital signal component and an attenuated representation of the undesired digital signal component. The transmitter converts the coded signal into an outbound signal in accordance with a signaling protocol and transmits it.

  • Patent number: 8634487
Abstract: A mobile device in an OFDM system receives an OFDM signal comprising RS tones and data OFDM symbols. The received RS tones are extracted for channel estimation using a masking operation. Masking parameters are determined by matching channel time variance using corresponding time domain samples of the extracted RS tones. As approximated channel impulse responses of transmission channels, the time samples are masked to perform the channel estimation. The channel time variance comprising inter-carrier interference and delay spread are measured, respectively. A mean of differences in power between neighbor adjacent subcarriers of the extracted RS tones is used for the inter-carrier interference measurement. The delay spread measurement such as root-mean-squared (RMS) delay spread is calculated using the approximated channel impulse responses.
