Abstract: In conventional Backplane Ethernet systems, data is transmitted over two pairs of copper traces in one direction using a PAM-2 scheme and a baud rate of 10.3125 GHz, giving an effective bit rate of 10.3125 Gbps. The rate at which data can be transmitted in Backplane Ethernet systems, while still being reliably received, is typically limited by ISI caused by the dispersive nature of the copper traces, frequency dependent transmission losses caused primarily by skin effect and dielectric loss of the copper traces, and cross-talk from adjacent communication lines. The present invention is directed to systems for overcoming these and other signal impairments to achieve speeds up to, and beyond, twice the conventional 10 Gbps limit associated with Backplane Ethernet systems.

Abstract: A set top box or like device utilizing trusted applications in conjunction with an untrusted software framework. In one implementation, trusted or certified applications are received from a service provider for execution by a software framework of the device. Certification of a trusted application may entail, for example, verifying that the application is executable by the device in a manner consist with the industry standard certification process. The software framework may comprise, for example, an Android framework supported by an underlying Linux operating system environment and isolated in a Linux resource container. A secure access client/server interface may also be provided to support interactions between the software framework and trusted portions of the device. In further embodiments, both trusted applications and a set top box application utilized by the device to perform traditional set top box operations are implemented in at least one version of an Android or like framework.

Abstract: A dynamic readjustment of an energy efficient network control policy parameters in an optical network unit based on a Service Interoperability in Ethernet Passive Optical Network (SIEPON) protocol. The access link between the OLT and ONU has distinct properties that can be used to enhance the energy efficiency control policy on the network facing side of the ONU. In one embodiment, an adjustment mechanism can be based on the receipt, by an optical interface in an ONU, of a control command from an upstream OLT, wherein the control command is configured to provide a limitation on an available time period during which the ONU can communicate with the OLT over an optical fiber cable.

Abstract: Methods and systems for processing B pictures with missing or invalid forward reference pictures are disclosed. Aspects of one method may include decoding of a contiguous sequence of B pictures that immediately follow a first I picture after a sequence header. The decoding of the B pictures may handle video edit codes in the AVS1-P2 format and/or random access points. Some embodiments of the invention may discard B pictures that refer to invalid or missing forward reference pictures, while other embodiments of the invention may interpolate B pictures. For an invalid forward reference picture, the interpolation algorithm for generating pictures may use the invalid forward reference picture and the backward reference picture. For a missing decoded forward reference picture, as in a random access, the interpolation algorithm for generating pictures may use the backward reference picture.

Abstract: Various embodiments of the present disclosure are directed to managing load steps caused by processing circuitry. The processing circuitry may generate a series of clock pulses at an average clock period. The processing circuitry may estimate a current consumption of the processing circuitry at each clock pulse. Accordingly, a clock pulse from the series of clock pulses may be omitted when a change in the current consumption exceeds a predetermined threshold amount, thereby increasing the average clock period.

  • Publication number: 20140112176
Abstract: In the subject system for polarity detection, link initialization between a primary device and a secondary device may be performed in at least two stages, a half-duplex stage when only the primary device transmits initialization signals and any encoded handshaking signals may be set to false, and a full-duplex stage when both devices may transmit initialization signals. The secondary device may perform polarity detection during the half-duplex stage. If the secondary device determines that the polarities of the received signals are reversed, the secondary device may reverse the polarities of any signals subsequently received from, and transmitted to, the primary device. In this manner, the polarities can be corrected for both devices during the half-duplex stage by the secondary device. The secondary device may initiate the full-duplex link initialization stage, during which any handshaking signals may be exchanged, by transmitting signals to the primary device.

Abstract: A video processing system receives left and right 3D video and/or graphics frames and generates noise reduced left 3D video, right 3D video and/or graphics frames based on parallax compensated left and right frames. Displacement of imagery and/or pixel structures is determined relative to opposite side left and/or right frames. Left 3D frames may be blended with the parallax compensated right 3D frames. Right 3D frames may be blended with the parallax compensated left 3D frames. The left 3D video, right 3D video and/or graphics frames comprise images that are captured, representative of and/or are displayed at a same time instant or at different time instants. • Patent number: 8705674
Abstract: Multi-band single-carrier modulation. A novel approach is presented by which interference compensation may be performed for signals received by a piconet operable device. The piconet operable device may be implemented within a region that includes two or more SOPs (Simultaneously Operating Piconets). Estimation of the level and location of interference is performed and the input to a decoder (within the piconet operable device) is selectively weighted to ensure that the effect of any existent interference within the signal received by the piconet operable device is minimized. Different interference levels are dealt with differently. For one example, portions of the received signal having undergone a large amount of interference may be simply treated as erasures with respect to the input the decoder. For another example, portions of the received signal having undergone some smaller degree of interference, but some interference nonetheless, may be de-weighted before being provided to the decoder.

  • Patent number: 8706277
Abstract: System and method for encoding, transmitting and decoding audio data. Audio bit steam syntax is re-organized to allow system optimizations that work well with memory latency and memory burst operations. Multiple small entropy coding tables are stored in RAM and loaded to on-chip memory as needed. Audio prediction is pipelined in the bitstream syntax. Intra frames, independent of other frames in the bitstream, are included in the bitstream for error recovery and channel change. New algorithms are implemented in legacy syntax by including the new information in the user data space of the audio frame. The new decoder can use projection to determine where the new information is and read ahead in the stream. Audio prediction from the immediately previous frame is restricted. Audio prediction is performed across channels within a single audio frame. A variable re-order function comprises storing channels of data to DRAM in the order they are decoded and reading them out in presentation order.

  • Patent number: 8706736
Abstract: A hash table supports extended entries. The extended entries permit a base entry to extend its associated data into one or more neighboring entries. Extended entries thereby provide a mechanism through which a hash table entry may store additional data compared to a base entry. Extended entries may coexist with base entries in the hash table. The hash table thereby provides the flexibility to adapt dynamically to meet system requirements and to balance the needs of additional data storage by blending the number of extended entries (that each store more data than a base entry) and the number of base entries (each storing less data than an extended entry).
