Patents Assigned to Brockway, Inc. (NY)
  • Patent number: 4828884
Abstract: The rims of containers are coated with a liquid substance by driving an endless applicator belt which carries the substance, the applicator belt including an application flight. The containers are advanced such that the container rims are exposed and in contact with the application flight to become coated with the substance. The containers are advanced in the same direction, and at the same speed, as the application flight. The containers are rotated about their longitudinal axes defined by the rims, while the rims are in contact with the application flight.

  • Patent number: 4526816
Abstract: Provided is a method for coating glass articles with a pourable, stable aqueous based emulsion comprising an unsaturated fatty acid, e.g., oleic or linoleic acid, and an alkali metal salt thereof, wherein the weight ratio of acid to salt in the emulsion ranges from about 2:1 to about 1:1. Application of the emulsion as a coating can be readily effected at glassware temperatures below 200.degree. F. The resultant coating is clear and transparent and provides superior lubricious and abrasion resistant properties.

  • Patent number: 4436544
Abstract: The present invention provides aluminum bronze glassmaking molds. The molds are substantially free of zinc and lead, consist essentially of manganese, nickel, iron, aluminum and copper, and exhibit superior wear resistance, durability, pitting and oxidation resistance, and machinability as compared to prior art glassmaking molds. Further, the aluminum bronze glassmaking molds of the present invention have a heretofore unavailable range of thermal conductivities at elevated temperatures so as to optimize the rate of glass forming in, e.g., Hartford Individual Section glass forming machines.

  • Patent number: RE32109
Abstract: A method for sealing a rim-like opening in a glass container is described. The surface of the opening is treated with tin and/or titanium oxide precursors and with or without one or more of the groups consisting of fluorides, sulfur oxides and sulfur oxide precursors and then overcoated with a chromium III organic metallic complex. A membrane comprising a thermoplastic film is pressed onto the coated opening surface and heated to cause glass-plastic adhesion, forming a closure. The coating steps may be applied to glass containers immediately after forming and annealing as appropriate, or may be applied to glass containers taken from storage.
