  • Patent number: 7372900
Abstract: A method and system of the present inventions are directed to selecting an optimal mode for ADSL operation based near/far end modem capability, loop length and capacity in the upper bands of modes of operation. A method for switching among a plurality of modes for ADSL modem operation may include the steps of determining a far end modem's capability for supporting one or more of a base mode, a first mode and a second mode; determining a loop length between a near end modem and the far end modem; determining a capacity in an upper band of the first mode and the second mode; and selecting an appropriate mode based on a combination of the far end modem's capability, the loop length and the capacity in the upper band.

  • Patent number: 7346118
Abstract: A method and apparatus for encoding data bits in a DMT modulation system is provided utilizing a 64-state Trellis encoder to achieve further improvement in the achievable coding gain by employing coset partitioning, bit conversion, and constellation encoding that fit the DMT modulation. The coding gain of the new coder is around 5.63 dB, which is about 0.96 dB higher than the current Trellis coder in the DMT standard.

  • Patent number: 7342927
Abstract: Methods, systems, processing units, and signals for transferring data of various data types across a common data path interface are disclosed. A representative method for transferring data between a master processing unit and at least a first slave processing unit via a common data path interface, the master processing unit and the at least first slave processing unit are configured to process a plurality of non-Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) data types, includes: receiving the data; generating an ATM cell in an ATM cell format determined from a plurality of ATM cell formats; transferring the ATM cell across the common data path interface to an appropriate processing unit; and processing the ATM cell upon receiving it from the common data path interface.

  • Patent number: 7298758
Abstract: The present invention is directed to methods and systems for optimizing UTOPIA CLAV polling arbitration. According to an aspect of the present invention, UTOPIA L2 CLAV status polling of each PHY address may be optimized by polling PHY addresses that have not yet indicated an active CLAV status or have just finished a cell transfer so that a CLAV response is required again. According to another aspect of the present invention, UTOPIA L2 CLAV status polling may be arbitrated so faster connection PHY addresses are polled proportionally more often than slower connection PHY addresses. According to yet another aspect of the present invention, if a connection speed no longer has any PHY addresses which require polling, the arbitration may be altered so only the connection speed with PHY addresses which require polling are actually polled. This ensures that the polling bandwidth is used as efficiently as possible.

  • Patent number: 7289554
Abstract: A method and apparatus for efficient filter structure for an enhanced operation of an ADSL-DMT modem on a subscriber loop with an environment consisting of ISDN interference. The method performs equalization of the channel by impulse response shortening and at the same time rejecting interference signals exhibiting cyclostationary properties. The method and apparatus for reducing the crosstalk involves a frequency-shifted versions of the received signal being filtered through frequency-shifted adaptive filters in the appropriate branches, and providing a joint time domain equalizer/crosstalk canceller to perform equalization of the channel and crosstalk cancellation in one instance and a separate crosstalk canceller to cancel crosstalk plus a time domain equalizer to equalize the channel.

  • Patent number: 7272153
Abstract: The present invention pertains to a system and corresponding method for distributed processing of packet data containing audio information. The system includes a host processing module for exchanging packet data containing audio information with a data packet network, wherein the host processing module includes host logic for performing non-real-time processing of the packet data. The system also includes a slave processing module coupled to the host processing module for exchanging packet data with the host processing module, wherein the slave processing module includes slave logic for performing real-time processing of the packet data, and for interfacing with a media device.

  • Patent number: 7272172
Abstract: The present invention overcomes various problems by defining two upstream masks (U1, U2) and two downstream masks (D1, D2) and using a mask selectable system for the long reach digital subscriber line (LDSL), in which a unique modem feature is activated during handshake to automatically check for physical layer status in terms of spectral compatibility and, thus, automatically optimize the boosted mode with the use of the mask selectable system choose the best combination of upstream/downstream masks in any physical layer noise scenario.
