  • Patent number: 10414165
Abstract: A processor of a print device performs empty processing in a case where it has determined that it has received, from a remaining ink amount detector, a first signal that indicates that a remaining amount of an ink is not greater than a first prescribed amount. The processor also performs the empty processing in a case where it has not determined that it has received the first signal, but has determined that it has received a second signal. In the empty processing, the processor performs soak cleaning of a nozzle face and stores an empty soak standby flag in an EEPROM. The empty soak standby flag is a flag that prohibits the performing of a printing operation. Therefore, the print device is able to reduce the possibility that a decline in print quality will occur.

  • Patent number: 6666550
Abstract: An ink cartridge for storing ink to be supplied to an ink-jet head includes a porous member that absorbs the ink, a porous member storage chamber that accommodates a porous member therein, and an ink chamber that stores the ink supplied from the porous member. The inside of the ink cartridge is separated into the ink chamber and the porous member storage chamber by side partition walls and a bottom partition wall. The bottom partition wall has a connecting hole that connects the porous member storage chamber and the ink chamber to each other. The opening of the connecting hole is noncircular in horizontal cross-section. Accordingly, the connecting hole is not occluded by an air-bubble trapped in the ink, so that the ink absorbed by the porous member and the ink stored in the ink chamber can be always be in contact with each other via the connecting hole.

  • Patent number: 5277504
Abstract: A printing apparatus is capable of detecting the end of an ink ribbon and verifying normal mounting of a ribbon cassette. When a portion of ink ribbon sufficient for printing one character is transported, an actuator in the ribbon cassette is rotated by a predetermined amount. The rotating actuator turns on and off a switch. The number of times the switch status is changed is detected. Determining the switch ON-OFF count makes it possible to detect the ink ribbon end and to check for any abnormal winding operation of the ink ribbon. Thus a single switch arrangement permits detection of both the ink ribbon end and an abnormal ink ribbon winding operation that may occur.
