Patents Assigned to Brown Boveri-Sulzer Turbomachinery, Ltd.
  • Patent number: 4021139
Abstract: The cooled vane includes an insert from which cooling air is dispersed over the inner wall of the vane to flow from the leading edge to the trailing edge via air channels between the jacket and insert and thence from the trailing edge via air channels to the leading edge and through outlets to flow over the suction side of the vane surface.

  • Patent number: 4019831
Abstract: The hollow interior of the blade is lined with a hollow insert and ribs to define a plurality of flow passages of narrow cross-section which connect a cooling-air chamber in the blade root with a cooling-air chamber in the blade tip. The chamber in the blade tip communicates with the interior of the insert and orifices are formed in the insert to exhaust air via a perforated partition through the trailing edge of the blade. The hollow insert is anchored in the blade root in various manners.

  • Patent number: 4003200
Abstract: An auxiliary blower is connected to the gaseous supply line to the axial compressor to deliver a gaseous medium, such as air, under pressure to the compressor when the rotor has been shut-off and slowed to a reduced speed. The delivered gaseous medium allows the rotor to continue rotating at the reduced speed while cooling of the rotor and vanes takes place in a uniform manner. The drive power for the blower amounts to 0.05% to 0.1% of the useful power in full-load operation of the compressor.

  • Patent number: 3989412
Abstract: The body of the blade is formed by a shell which is cast with the root to define an internal cavity and a chamber in the blade tip. A plurality of ducts extend from a chamber in the root through the shell and along the periphery of the shell to the chamber in the blade tip. Passages within the shell communicate the internal cavity with outlets in the trailing edge. These passages are sized to dam up the cooling air in the cavity.
