Patent number: 4369121Abstract: An aqueous solution containing a cellulose ether in an amount of from about 0.25 to about 2.0% by weight and a wetting agent of from about 0.10 to about 0.5% by weight is described. The solution may be applied to stockpiles of aggregate materials at a rate of from about 0.05 to about 0.20 gallons per square foot of surface area to control the release of dust therefrom when subjected to high winds.Type: GrantFiled: June 18, 1981Date of Patent: January 18, 1983Assignee: Browning-Ferris Industries, Inc.Inventors: Joseph W. Callahan, Roy M. Christoffel, Jack W. Horvath

Patent number: 4000061Abstract: An enclosed particular dry product is conveyed through a conduit by a gaseous fluid formed by a vacuum blower. Metered hoppers feed the product into the conduit. A cyclone removes the product from the fluid and conveys the same to a separating screen. The desired size product is recovered and passed through a flexible sock to minimize breakage and loaded into a vessel. The undesired size is fluid conveyed to a recovery receptacle.Type: GrantFiled: August 29, 1975Date of Patent: December 28, 1976Assignee: Browning-Ferris Industries, Inc.Inventors: Thomas J. Bowling, Glenn W. Ferguson

Patent number: 3980558Abstract: A novel method for permanently disposing of liquid or semi-liquid wastes containing soluble toxic materials to prevent the toxic materials from being leached into the surrounding environment is disclosed. The process comprises admixing the liquid or semi-liquid waste, such as aqueous sludge from the manufacture of phosphoric acid containing soluble and insoluble arsenic, sulfur and like toxic compounds, with a solidifying agent consisting essentially of a hydraulic cement in amounts sufficient to provide a fluid mass that will set to a contiguous rock-like solid upon standing, and then allowing the admixture to set to a contiguous rock-like solid mass which is insoluble in water. By the inventive process, the soluble and insoluble toxic materials of the waste are wholly entrapped in the contiguous rock-like solid mass which thereby prevents them from being leached into the surrounding environment when exposed to ambient moisture.Type: GrantFiled: July 7, 1975Date of Patent: September 14, 1976Assignee: Browning-Ferris Industries, Inc.Inventor: Steve R. Thompson
