  • Patent number: 9332828
Abstract: A brush head for an electric toothbrush having a support structure rotatably oscillated by a motor in the handle of the toothbrush. A plurality of bristle tufts are mounted on the support structure in three ring-like series concentrically about a center point of the support structure. The bristle tufts are arranged in a unique arrangement whereby no more than two of the bristle tufts in the intermediate series and innermost series lie on a diameter line passing through the center point. The outermost and intermediate series of bristle tufts may be arranged in oval-shaped rings and the bristle tufts of the inner series may have a circular arrangement. All of the tufts preferably have the same height and diameter.

  • Publication number: 20150173872
Abstract: A brush head including a housing, detachably securable to a handle of a powered toothbrush. A camshaft extends through a cavity defined in the brush head. The camshaft is operatively engaged with a motorized drive shaft in the handle and causes independent movement in tuft blocks provided on a head region of the brush head. Bristle tufts extend outwardly from each tuft block and through an opening defined in the head region. The rotating camshaft causes a first tuft block to reciprocate linearly in a plane disposed at right angles to the longitudinal axis and causes the second tuft block to oscillate about an axis parallel to the housing's longitudinal axis. The bristles on the first block chisel particulate material from the surfaces of the teeth being cleaned; and the bristles on the second block sweep particulate material from those surfaces.

  • Patent number: 8590091
Abstract: A replaceable brush head for a powered toothbrush and a toothbrush incorporating the same. The brush head includes a body having a bore extending therethrough and a driveshaft extending through the bore and rotatable about a longitudinal axis. A first bristle block is disposed in the body and is operatively engaged with the driveshaft. A second bristle block is disposed in the body and is operatively engaged with the first bristle block. Rotation of the driveshaft produces a first type of motion in the first bristle block and the motion of the first bristle block produces a second type of motion in the second bristle block.

  • Patent number: 8590092
Abstract: A vibrating toothbrush comprising a handle including a body with a tubular member extending outwardly from one end. A replaceable sleeve slides over the tubular member and detachably engages the body. One or more of the sleeve, tubular member and body incorporates a vibration damping zone for reducing vibration transmission from the sleeve to the handle. The damping zone is one of a material that differs in damping properties to the material of the rest of the toothbrush; a hole defined in the one of the sleeve, tubular member and body, and a toothbrush where that hole is filled with an elastomeric material.

  • Patent number: 8522797
Abstract: A replaceable accessory head for a powered toothbrush. The user selects one of a plurality of dental care accessory assemblies for flossing, brushing teeth, or for stimulating the gums. That assembly is engaged with the head which in turn is engaged with the handle and is locked thereto. This locking motion also causes the assembly to become locked to the head and the assembly may then be used for its intended purpose. A vibratory mechanism in the handle is activated causing vibration in the accessory assembly and thus improving the flossing, brushing or gum stimulation motions. When the assembly is worn out or when a different dental hygiene task is to be undertaken, the user detaches the head from the handle, thereby simultaneously unlocking the accessory assembly from the head. The assembly is then disengaged and is replaced by a different accessory assembly.

  • Publication number: 20090019649
Abstract: The device of the present invention is a split head toothbrush having a powered mechanism that actively causes the two portions of the split head to move relative to each other. The toothbrush includes a camshaft that is operationally connected to a motor in the handle of the brush. The camshaft extends through the neck of the brush and into the head, terminating in the head at a point beneath the bristles. The camshaft has two offset cam lobes that contact both of the portions of the split head. As the camshaft rotates, the cam lobes cause the portions of the split head to move upwardly and downwardly relative to each other. The head of the toothbrush may be permanently attached to the handle or may be selectively detached therefrom.

  • Publication number: 20090019650
Abstract: A toothbrush having a head with at least two movable members. The members flex inwardly and outwardly away from each other in a direction that is substantially at right angles to the longitudinal axis of the brush handle. Force is transferred from one movable member to another to aid in this relative movement. Bristles extending from both movable members are brought into contact with the surface of teeth so that the tips are disposed at right angles thereto. In a first embodiment, two movable members are connected by an oscillating rod that flexes the members away from each other. In a second embodiment, a center section on the head nests within a perimeter section and a rotatable cam extends between the sections and flexes them inwardly and outwardly away from each other.
