  • Publication number: 20210002039
Abstract: A device is described for facilitating the preparation of therapeutic foam e.g. for the treatment of varicose veins. A pressurised vial contains a sclerosant liquid, e.g., polidocanol solution, and a sterile gas which is readily absorbed by the body, e.g., carbon dioxide, oxygen or a mixture of these gases. The vial is provided either with a specialised stopper/seal into which a syringe nozzle may be inserted or alternatively a septum seal which may be penetrated by a hypodermic needle. The quantities of gas and liquid and the pressure in the vial are pre-set so that, on connection of a syringe to the vial, a predetermined volume of both gas and liquid is transferred to the syringe, with the intention that the syringe is then used to make a foam by known means. The use of the vial ensures that the ratio of gas to liquid in the foam is standardised, and also provides a convenient way of packaging the gas and liquid and of filling the syringe in a sterile manner.

  • Patent number: 10383738
Abstract: A tibial knee joint prosthesis for attachment to a suitably prepared tibial bone, providing bearing portions in the lateral and medial compartments. The lateral and medial bearing surfaces of the component are inclined at different angles in the anterior to posterior direction of the knee, so that when mounted to the tibia, the lateral bearing surface of the prosthesis is higher than the medial bearing surface to the posterior side of the knee. In this way the lateral ligament is tightened progressively more than the medial ligament as the knee moves from extension to flexion, resulting in increased stability in the lateral compartment.

  • Patent number: 9955975
Abstract: The present invention provides a surgical clamp comprising a temperature sensitive shape memory material, the clamp capable of taking up a first form in which the clamp (6) is shaped to at least partially encircle a tubular structure (14); a second form shaped to substantially completely encircle the tubular structure (14) and constrict it, the clamp changing from the first form to the second form above the transition temperature of the shape memory material; and a third form derived from the first form by resilient deformation of the clamp in its first form. The present invention also provides applicators for delivering the clamps and kits comprising the clamps.

  • Patent number: 9713679
Abstract: Syringe for dispensing foam having a syringe barrel, a nozzle and a bore to receive a syringe plunger having a front end and a back end. The syringe plunger includes at the front end thereof a waste container defined by a cylindrical side wall, a front end wall and a rear end wall, the walls being arranged such that an external cylindrical surface of the walls forms a seal with an internal surface of the syringe barrel. The waste container has an inlet aperture in the front end wall which is in communication with the syringe nozzle when the plunger is fully depressed into the syringe barrel. The waste container further has a hydrophobic vent in the rear end wall thereof which allows air to escape from the waste container while substantially preventing foam from escaping the waste container when the syringe is in use.

  • Patent number: 9457160
Abstract: Device containing sclerosant liquid for use in the treatment of blood vessels having an aerosol valve housing containing gas-entry ports. The aerosol valve housing is mounted on a canister having an expandable inner container in which the sclerosant fluid is contained. The expandable inner container is affixed to the outer opening of the canister or to the aerosol valve housing above the valve gas-entry ports so that gas taken from the interior of the expandable inner container can mix with the sclerosant liquid to create a micro foam, such that introduction of pressurized gas through the aerosol valve causes the expandable inner container to inflate to accommodate the pressurized gas.

  • Patent number: RE46877
Abstract: An altered antibody chain is produced in which the CDR's of the variable domain of the chain are derived from a first mammalian species. The framework-encoding regions of DNA encoding the variable domain of the first species are mutated so that the mutated framework-encoding regions encode a framework derived from a second different mammalian species. The or each constant domain of the antibody chain, if present, are also derived from the second mammalian species.
