Patent number: 8858718Abstract: An automated method of cleaning the pipes of a plate washing system is provided. The plate washing system includes at least one manifold having a plurality of pipes configured to be provided within wells of a plate in order to wash the wells, an ultrasonic transducer mounted to a tank, and a control system. The plate washing system also includes sensors to sense the position of the pipes relative to plate and the tank, and the fluid level within the wells of the plate. The method includes dispensing fluid to the tank, submerging the tips of the pipes within the fluid, activating the ultrasonic transducer in order to vibrate the fluid, and aspirating the fluid from the tank. The control system may initiate a cleaning operation at the request of the user, at a scheduled interval, or when the level sensing system detects a decrease in instrument function.Type: GrantFiled: October 1, 2008Date of Patent: October 14, 2014Assignee: BTI Holdings, Inc.Inventors: Robert M. Patent number: 8218141Abstract: An apparatus and a method for optically analyzing a sample are provided. The apparatus includes a first optical device that transmits a narrow waveband of light and has a first filter and a first monochromator that provide different paths for the narrow waveband of the light. The apparatus may also include a light source that generates the light as broadband excitation light, in which case the first optical device transmits a narrow waveband of the broadband excitation light through the first filter or the first monochromator. Further, the apparatus may include a second optical device that directs the narrow waveband of the broadband excitation light onto the sample and receives emission light from the sample, a third optical device that transmits a narrow waveband of the emission light, and a detector that converts the narrow waveband of the emission light into an electrical signal.Type: GrantFiled: July 19, 2010Date of Patent: July 10, 2012Assignee: BTI Holdings, Inc.Inventors: Oleg Zimenkov, Xavier Amouretti, Robert M. Patent number: 6141572Abstract: A problem in pulse oximetry is discriminating between arterial and non-arterial oxygen. Non-arterial oxygen can become detectable by an oximeter when a patient moves, obscuring the oximeter's measurement of arterial oxygen at critical times. Recent advances in pulse oximetry have made it possible to make the discrimination between arterial and non-arterial blood oxygen values. To allow manufacturers, hospitals, and medical researchers to evaluate the new oximetry technology, and evaluate oximeters which use it, new simulation technology is presented which can simulate simultaneous arterial and non-arterial blood oxygen on demand, with precision as to oxygen value, waveform amplitude, and waveform frequency. This invention provides the required simulation by double amplitude modulating the red and infra-red oximeter pulses.Type: GrantFiled: February 18, 1999Date of Patent: October 31, 2000Assignees: Bio-Tek Instruments, Inc., Lionheart Technologies, Inc., BTI Holdings, Inc.Inventor: Peter Haas
