Abstract: Dimethylaminomethylenebis(phosphonic acid) is prepared by reacting dimethylformamide with phosphorous trichloride and treating the reaction mixture with alcohols or glycols and water. The phosphonic acid is combined with water soluble carboxylic acid polymers for use as a corrosion and scale inhibitor in aqueous systems. These compositions may also be combined with phosphorous acid and water soluble zinc salts.
