  • Patent number: 4203323
Abstract: In a flowmeter system in which a fluid stream causes a ball to circulate in a guide track at a speed proportional to the volume flow rate of the stream, a signal is produced each time the ball passes a sensing point. The speed of the ball is continually measured, and from stored data representing the fluid volume passing through the flowmeter per signal as a function of the signal repetition rate, the volume associated with each signal is determined. The volumes thus determined during a given period are summed to give the total volume over the given period.

  • Patent number: 4182189
Abstract: A method for attaining a predetermined compressive stress is achieved by a device in the form of a washer, coating, or plug which as a function of pressure does not yield significantly, but when a predetermined pressure is reached, a sudden change in structure takes place which effects detonation of an explosive mixture which detonation is indicated by a sound, a puff of smoke, a change of appearance, a sudden release of heat, or an instantaneous increase in friction. The device includes a porous brittle body in which an explosive substance has been absorbed, and also preferably hard particles that aid in effecting detonation when the porous body goes through a physical change. The detonation can also join contact surfaces together, serve as an indication of desired prestress or torque applied to a fastener, to indicate a load limit, and the like.

  • Patent number: 4175228
Abstract: A method of hot bending a generally straight wire blank of a material being brittle in cold condition into a wire element having straight end portions and coils formed therebetween. According to the invention the rod blank is hot bent without a mandrel by clamping the end portions of the rod blank by means of two clamping jaws. The rod blank is heated to a softening temperature in the central wire portion which is to form the coils of the finished wire element, while the end portions are kept at a lower temperature. During the bending process at least one of the clamping jaws is brought along a movement path adapted to the desired coil formation.

  • Patent number: 4062389
Abstract: A screw tightening apparatus comprising a motor-driven tool, a screw magazine for screws affixed to a strip-like carrier, and a screw advancing and tightening means for advancing the screws one at a time to a standby position in which a motor-driven bit may engage the screw for applying the same. A bell crank has a spring arm for advancing the screw strip and a drive arm driven by a projection on a plunger against the force of a feed spring to a cocked position, preparatory to advancement of the screw strip, the cocked position being maintained by a pivoted pawl which has a hook that locks the bell crank in such cocked position. A second projection on the plunger member engages the pawl to effect unlocking thereof near the end of a retracting stroke of the plunger member, whereby the feed spring drives the bell crank to advance the strip. A novel means for unlocking a spring-loaded axially slidable lock sleeve is provided.
