Abstract: A thin metal sheet is produced in a continuous rolling operation by passing the hot workpiece through a succession of size-reducing compression roller stands. Between the furthest downstream stand and the stand immediately upstream therefrom there is provided a stretcher which decreases the workpiece's thickness between 5 and 15%, whereas the furthest downstream rolling stand merely reduces the thickness between 3 and 6%. Thus irregularities in planarity and the like are completely eliminated by the stretcher and the furthest downstream rolling stand serves merely to accurately size the workpiece.

Abstract: A strip coiler for the winding of coils from rolled metal strip, especially slit or split strip, comprises a coiling drum provided with a longitudinal surface against which a movable jaw can clamp an end of the strip. The surface or the jaw is formed with an elastic clamping material or an elastic clamping jaw, preferably of rubber, and such material is preferably provided on both the surface and the jaw.

Abstract: A sheet-metal strip coming hot from a rolling mill is subjected to alternate bending in opposite directions before being wound on a mandrel, preferably while still in a temperature range of about 600.degree. C to 800.degree. C in the case of steel. The bending is carried out by deflecting rollers which may be mounted upstream of a pair of reverse-feed rollers, acting as a strip brake, preceding the driven mandrel.
