    Abstract: Secondary electrochemical generators of the zinc-electrode alkaline type whose anode has a great capacity for cycling. The electrochemical generators according to the invention comprise zinc anodes made in such a manner as to increase within the active material the number of sites for formation of zinc during recharging, by a better draining of the electrical charges, obtained by using a dispersed secondary collector in the form of a conductive powder in the active mass, to which may advantageously be associated a principal support-collector of the high porous three-dimensional structured type having a high developed surface. These generators thus have zinc electrodes of improve cyclability, the number of charges and discharges that the electrode can perform under different regimes being increased.

    Abstract: The invention concerns complex porous structures varying in thickness and the method used for making them electrically conductive by conductive polymer deposit. The conductive activation is obtained by depositing a conductive polymer, set on the whole developed surface of the structure through its entire thickness, by pre-treatment steps for oxidizing the structure, depositing a monomer, polymerizing oxidaton-doping of the monomer. The structures are of the type crosslinked foam, felt or woven fabric and are mass-treated by flowing treatment solutions within blocks, still unwound rolls. Said structures, which can be metal-coated or not, are particularly designed to be used as electrodes for the electrolysis of effluent liquids, detecting and trapping organic or biological molecules, supporting electrodes for electrochemical generators, catalyst supports, filtering media, sound insulating materials, electromagnetic, nuclear, antistatic protecting structures, heat exchangers and others.

    Abstract: The invention concerns the manufacture of complex metallic or metallized porous structures, wherein the electroplating metal over the entire developed surface is preceded by a specific pre-metallization of the basic structure. The pre-metallization is obtained by depositing a conductive polymer, which is deposited on the entire developed surface of the structure by the steps of an oxidizing pre-treatment of the structure, depositing in the liquid phase, a monomer having a polymerized form that is electrically conductive, and polymerizing by oxidation-doping of the monomer. The structures according to the invention are particularly intended for use as electrodes for the electrolysis of liquid effluents, as electrode supports for electrochemical generators, as catalyst supports, filtration media, phonic insulation, electromagnetic and nuclear protection structures, or for other applications.

The provision of aluminum is controlled in the form of particles by immersing, by spraying or “painting.” The structures according to the invention are particularly intended to be used as catalyst supports or filtering agents.

    Abstract: A one piece closure for a container is described in which the closure has a break-open, reclosable lid. The lid is formed integrally with the closure and is defined by frangible lines of weakness formed in the closure. In use, the lid is initially held in its closed position by way of the unbroken frangible lines of weakness. The user exerts a downward force on the lid so as to break the lid from the closure. The lid is hinged to the closure by means of molded-in-place hinges. The lid has a lid closing tab integrally molded with the lid with the closing tab being disposed on the other side of the hinge line from the lid. As the lid and the closing tab are broken clear of the closure, the lid rotates downwardly about the hinge line into the container and the closing tab rotates upwardly.

    Abstract: A closure cap (1) of the present invention is provided for closing a tube (3). The cap has a skirt (15) which, when installed on the tube, extends from the end of the tube along the outside of the outside surface of the tube wall, an end closure (13) which extends across the end of the tube and closes off the end of the tube, and an inner flange (17) integral with the skirt and with the end closure. The inner flange is concentric with the skirt such that the end of the tube is received between the skirt and the inner flange. The cap further has a wall (19) integral with the inner end of the flange and integral with the end closure for connecting the inner end of the inner flange and the end closure. A flexible connection (23) is provided between the skirt and the inner flange which permits flexing of the inner flange relative to the skirt upon installation of the cap on the tube thereby to enable installation of the cap on the tube substantially without deformation of the tube.

    Abstract: An early warning system (10) for visually informing the hearing impaired driver (D) of an automotive vehicle (A) of the proximity of an emergency vehicle by detecting a siren being sounded by the emergency vehicle. A microphone unit (12) receives an audible frequency signal transmitted by the siren. This signal is in one of a band of audible frequencies. In addition to the siren, the microphone unit receives other audible frequency signals as well. A signal processor (22) processes all received audible frequency signals. The processor includes an analog-digital converter (30) for converting received signals to a digital signal. The processor further includes a correlator microprocessor (32) for comparing the resulting processed signal to known siren signal characteristics each of which identifies a different type of siren. A light indicator (D1) provides a visible signal to the driver of the proximity of an emergency vehicle and an audible warning is also provided.

The crossing filaments form a braid which like Chinese novelty handcuffs or finger-cuffs stiffen as tension is applied to the sheath.

    Abstract: A packaging arrangement for a group of containers includes a tray-shaped bottom including a planar bottom wall and circumferential walls extending substantially normal to the plane of the bottom wall to form a rim which initially confines the containers in their positions during the formation of the packaging arrangement. The packaging arrangement further includes a strap-shaped typing member that encircles the containers and ultimately confines them in their positions and that carries a handle by which the packaging arrangement and the containers accommodated therein can be held. A separate cover to be joined to the tray-shaped bottom and surrounding the containers and the strap-shaped typing member encircling the same completes the packaging arrangement and has an opening for the passage of the handle from the interior to the exterior of the cover.
