Abstract: The memory control system includes a memory unit, bus master(s), arbiter, and memory controller. The bus masters output bus use request signals, block mode signals, block information, and drive information for data and outputs data corresponding to block/receive read-out data. The arbiter receives request signals and drive information and outputs a master selection signal used to select a bus master to which access is permitted and the drive signal input from the selected bus master. The bus master selection unit receives block mode signals, block information and data corresponding to the bus masters and outputs the block mode signal, block information and bus master data selected according to the master selection signal. The memory controller receives drive information from the arbiter, block mode signal, and block information from the selection unit, and allows data corresponding to respective line block groups to be sequentially-stored in/read out from respective banks.

Abstract: A motion estimation method using adaptive mode decision is disclosed. The method includes a motion vector difference value calculation step of calculating a motion vector difference value using an input motion vector estimation value x component for a current block and an input x offset corresponding to a current SAD. At the MVD Variable Length Coding (VLC) step, the length of a bit string, which is obtained by performing variable-length coding on an MVDx, is calculated. At a motion vector difference value calculation step, a motion vector difference value is calculated using an input motion vector estimation value y component for a current block and an input y offset corresponding to the current SAD. At an MVD VLC step, the length of a bit string, which is obtained by performing variable-length coding on an MVDy, is calculated. Thereafter, the amount of motion vector coding is produced by adding the MVDx and the MVDy.

Abstract: Privacy during communication between video phone terminals is enhanced by eradicating the possibility of eavesdropping through lip reading. Image data on the screen is processed so as not to be recognizable by a third party. Voice data is encrypted and the encrypted data is transmitted and receive. The received data is then decrypted by decoding. The video phone terminal of transmitting side transmits the specially processed entire area or selected area of a picture data so that it will not be recognizable by a third party who does not take part in privacy communication in a video phone terminal of receiving side. The video phone terminal of receiving side receives the processed picture data and recovers the specially processed entire area or selected area of a picture data according to the method processed in video phone terminal of transmitting side.

  • Publication number: 20050232360
Abstract: Disclosed are a motion estimation (ME) apparatus and method using a fast search algorithm for a motion vector (MV) that can significantly reduce the number of computations by making use of the fast search algorithm rather than a conventional full search algorithm and that can allow a user to set a computational complexity level. The fast MV search algorithm causes image degradation of approximately 0.5 dB at most, but can significantly reduce the number of computations. As the number of computations of an ME circuit can be adjusted by input computational complexity parameters, the efficiency of a pipeline structure in which texture encoding and ME are performed in a parallel fashion can be maximized.

Abstract: Disclosed is a high-speed image compression apparatus using a last non-zero detection circuit. A memory stores data corresponding to a result of a quantization operation that quantizes an input. A last non-zero searcher connected to the memory searches for a last non-zero position while the quantization result data is written to the memory, and outputs last non-zero position data. A VLC (Variable Length Coder) finds a pattern from the quantization result data and the last non-zero position data, searches for a variable length code mapped to the pattern, packs the variable length code in a unit of a word, and outputs a compressed stream. The high-speed image compression apparatus can reduce a variable length coding time and can rapidly operate the overall compression system according to a reduced variable length coding time, thereby increasing a frame rate.

Abstract: Disclosed is a digital video coding system and more particularly technology capable of reducing the load of a CPU (Central Processing Unit) that controls a video coding system for implementing a digital video data compression/decompression standard such as MPEG-1, 2, 4, H.261 or H.263. In a conventional video coding system, the circuit configuration and control method of a variable-length encoder are becoming increasingly complex with the development of a video compression/decompression standard. In a conventional system structure, a complex control operation must be carried out, such that there is a problem in that the load of the CPU controlling the video coding system increases. Thus, the video coding technology is provided to reduce the load of the CPU necessary for controlling a VLC (Variable Length Coding) unit.

Abstract: The system efficiently interfaces with display data using a single-chip module consisting of a Micro-Processor Unit (MPU) and a video CODEC. GUI data and video data are effectively displayed through LCD interfaces, respectively equipped in both of MPU and video CODEC, when two individual chips of MPU and video CODEC are incorporated into a single-chip module. The MPU and video CODEC may each be equipped with their own LCD interfaces. Thereby, GUI data of MPU and decoding video data of video CODEC are transmitted out to an external LCD driver for performing a display. Abstract: A specific image is saved in accordance with a video CODEC operated by the multi-frame structure. The method copies and saves a specific image in the process of compressing or decompressing the image of a videophone or a multimedia terminal. Each process utilizes first and second memory spaces of size commensurate with the size of images, and uses alternately two memory spaces as the area for a current image being coded or decoded and the area for a previous image. When the copy request of a specific image is issued during decompressing or compressing of the arbitrary (n)th frame, the image desired to be copied, corresponding to the previous image in the compressing or decompressing process of the (n+1)th frame, is treated as the image saved in said 1st memory space, thereupon the compressing or decompressing process of the (n+2)th frame is processed with respect to the 3rd memory space.
