Patent number: 11247938Abstract: The present invention provides, in various embodiments, compositions and methods for strengthening glass without heat or chemical processing of the glass itself. The compositions of the present invention are emulsions comprising polymer colloid particles that are functionalized with an organosilicon compound. The polymer colloid particles can fill surface defects in the glass due to their size being smaller than the surface defects, and the functional groups thereon can react with the surface of the glass to anchor the particles in the defects.Type: GrantFiled: June 8, 2018Date of Patent: February 15, 2022Assignee: C-Bond Systems, LLCInventors: Erik K. Koep, Vince Pugliese, Bruce E. Rich, Andrew R. Barron

Patent number: 10696583Abstract: The present invention provides a composition for strengthening glass. The composition may incorporate one or more of a surfactant, a silane, and an adhesive resin. The composition may further incorporate one or more of a water-based solvent, a defoamer, a glycerol, and an alcohol. A strengthened glass laminate may be formed of a glass base and a coating made up of the glass strengthening composition. The strengthened glass laminate may further comprise a film. The coating may adhere the film to the glass. A method for making a strengthened glass laminate may include providing a glass base and spraying the glass strengthening composition on the glass base. The present composition has the combined advantages of both optical clarity, high adhesion to glass, and dimensional stability.Type: GrantFiled: July 9, 2012Date of Patent: June 30, 2020Assignee: C-Bond Systems, LLCInventor: James Jackson Milham Henry

Patent number: 10273347Abstract: The present invention relates generally to the reinforcement, repair, and strengthening of materials through the application of innovative, nanoparticle-based compositions to substrate materials, including but not limited to glass and ceramic. In some embodiments, the present invention produces a strengthened laminate. The compositions of this invention accomplish such ends by employing nanoparticles and use other components that work with the nanoparticles to enable advanced multifunctional properties in treated materials. This invention also enhances the initial tack and adhesion properties of materials to polymer coatings, materials to film, materials to other materials, and film to film. At least one embodiment concerns an improved process for making the compositions.Type: GrantFiled: August 12, 2015Date of Patent: April 30, 2019Assignee: C-Bond Systems, LLCInventors: Enrique V. Barrera, Liehui Ge, Santoshkumar Biradar, Paul H. Brogan, Bruce E. Rich
