  • Patent number: 7935141
Abstract: A delivery system for deploying a medical device, such as a stent, at increasing deployment speed is described. The system comprises a catheter comprising a catheter shaft, a retractable sheath slidably mounted on the catheter shaft, and the device in a compressed state sandwiched between the shaft and sheath. A control handle is included with a housing and knobs for a user to apply a rotary or other force to retract the sheath. The sheath is attached to a slider that is mounted on a slide rod and attached to a drive belt. A take up pulley is provided in the housing and connected to the belt input knob, so that the pulley turns when the knob is turned. The belt is attached to the pulley so that the drive is wound onto the rotating pulley. As the belt winds upon the pulley, the overall outside diameter of the pulley increases, thereby increasing the deployment speed.

  • Publication number: 20110066147
Abstract: Lesion size or volume prediction shortly after the onset of an ablation procedure can inform or control the ablation procedure. The prediction and/or control is made without regard to an actual detected temperature in the vicinity of the ablation electrodes. As a consequence, the system has utility with irrigated catheter constructions and other situations in which local irrigation in the vicinity of an ablation site would otherwise interfere with a prediction or control scheme that solely relies upon temperature measurements.

  • Publication number: 20110060397
Abstract: There is disclosed herein a method of loading a self-expanding stent (10) into a delivery sheath (12) that is by itself strong enough to preserve the stent in a radially compressed pre-deployment configuration, comprising the steps of: (i) compressing the stent (10) to a relatively small diameter; (ii) providing a loading sheath (18) with an inner diameter d1; (iii) with the stent (10) exhibiting an outside diameter of d2, where d2<d1, providing relative translational movement between the stent (10) and the loading sheath (18), whereby the stent is accommodated within the lumen of the loading sheath (18); (iv) advancing the loading sheath (18), containing the stent (10), into the lumen (16) of the delivery sheath (12); and {v} deploying the stent into the lumen (16) of the delivery sheath (12), by withdrawing the loading sheath (18) while restraining the stent (10) from axial movement out of the lumen (16) of the delivery sheath (12).
